If so, it could be that the "outgoing mail server", or "SMTP server" isn't specified right.
Your internet service provider can probably help you get that straightened out, if it's the cause.
It might help people help you if you tell what mail program you're using. (click on the "Help" menu at the top, then choose "About ...")

I am not familiar with Thunderbird but all e-mail programs have seperate settings for incoming server and outgoing server. What kind of internet connection do you have? Your local ISP provider needs to tell you the outgoing server name, account name & password. The most likely problem you have is that one of these items isn't set correctly.
I know this isn't an exact answer but hope it helps some.

Look at Tools / Account Settings:
Then choose Outgoing Server:
There should be an entry in the "server Name" box. If there's not, or if it's wrong, sending won't work. There may also be an issue with the "username" box.

Thats EXACTLY like mine and I have been there and tried changing things. My server says I need a smtp in there somewhere, I tried that and it didnt work either.
So mine says "mail" then server address like 'mailptcnet.net'. Is that what it is "supposed" to look like? And user name is the name my daughters set up when I got this puter. Ones name is Sara and one is Amy hence the word saramy, and thats what it says!
So where do I go from here? Mine is set on NO where asked about secure sites, The only difference. Does it matter? Does a filter at server conflict with that setting? Gee thanks a bunch for helping get this sorted out, best help I have had all week without e-mail. --just don--
But, even if you have that right, it could be the username is the problem. It's not necessarily the same as your email address!
For example, my email address is de
If fixing that server name doesn't do the trick, then you really need to call your internet service provider (tcpnet) and ask them for the specific settings you need.

I think this problem is as helpless and as hopeless as me and my fight with this disease. NO results what so ever for either of us.
Somewhere I saw a page with a pass word in ***** and there was about 8*'s and I only have a four letter word (NOT THOSE!) as a password. But alas I cannot find back to that page where I saw it. I was searching all over in tools and settings and everywhere else up there and cant find it back.
AND I really dont have the time or energy right now since I am working a bit of overtime right now. I guess I will have to wait and fix it later, maybe next year!!!
If only I was as smart as the black box. Or just smart enough to know what I am doing. They shouldnt leave guys like me have these contraptions as they might be dangeerous!!!
But thanks danq and all others who contributed to my question.--jd--

I am using Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail.
And my provider is my little itty bitty phone company in my itty bitty town.
Hope thats what you were asking, thanks for thinking about me. Have to be here to call them during office hours to do any good. I am sure their puter wizzards could solve it in about ten minutes flat. So I will call them when I get a chance.
Thanks Alex,
