My computer a few days ago went super slow. Takes forever and a day to bring up a page,,,was pretty quick before this.
WHAT HAPPENED???
Here's whatI did. I downloaded win something virus scan because it said it would speed things up. It made it ten times worse.
So I took it back off,,,still half as slow. Kept getting messages of trojan horses on it,,,said it 'healed' those.
I took it off and it is still super slow.
I am NOT able to figue this out. What do I do??How do I get my old slow speed back??
I deleted cookies, did a virus scan with AVG and it didnt show anything but cookies. now what??

Hey Don,
Google: Ad-Aware SE Personal
It is a free program and it has updates regularly. It usually finds spyware and other things and will delete them.
Google or go to Windows and download: Free Windows Registry Cleaner This program found a bunch of junk on my computer the first time I used it.
Also I am sure you know how to go to START then ALL PROGRAMS then ACCESSORIES and then CLEAN UP system; defrag system and so on.
If problems persist, you may have to take your tower to a computer geek who should be able to find out the problem in about 10 minutes. If you do that, ask his/her to install Command Antivirus. It is probably the best antivirus around and most computer techs have it and can install it legally.
I hope your computer gets its act together. So sorry you are having trouble.
This is the best I can do.
My best, Janet

no doubt a spyware, malware or virus trojan is usually a virus. must get most recent virus update for your antivirus program. i can burn a disc that has the program on it . let me know if you want a copy it is the program many companies use

did you get teh computer resolved? you might want to search for avast that is a free virus scanner which works better than AVG IMHO...
and along with adawres SE also find spy bot search and destroy.. run back to back and you should have no problems in the spyware category.. I am certified dell tech so if you have any more trouble i can help you figure it out... dell or not... I will be happy to send you links.. and walk through trouble shooting.. as my pain permitts...
life is too short to spend time dealing with computer problems... and Lyme!

I had been using Norton antivirus but it seemed to really bog down everything.
About 8 months ago, I installed spybot search and destroy, and just recently, I uninstalled Norton and am using Avast instead.
My computer seems to run a LOT faster now!
Both those programs are amazing, imo; I'm really glad to hear someone who knows a lot more about computers than I do endorse them both (thanks, livinlyme!)

Andie333,
IMHO, norton and mcaffee are a pay virus scanners that tend to alter or corrupt software programs and bog down the function of a computer. I have used both in the past and not very successfully...
some people dont have trouble but as a previous computer tech support rep.. I have found many do.. I was not allowed to speak my mind as I would get fired.. but since I am no longer employeed, I pick no bones about telling it as I see it..
Avast was introduced to me about 4 years ago or before that I used to use AVG.. since using Avast.. make sure you get registered.... it is still free when you register, but it will update for you for about 18 months and when they come out with a new version be sure to install the newer version or you may end up with a virus! Norton and McAffee are a yearly subscription these programs are free and I find less computer problems when running them...
I remember the nightmares... mostly with McAffee but Norton tends to imbed deeply into the registry so even when you remove the program or uninstall, it is still in your registry..
