I have needed a new printer for about a month now.
My brain has been struggling with putting the pieces together re: making a decision on what to get.
I am considering wireless but not sure how that works.
I have heard I need a router. Computer I have shows an icon for ...sorry..can't recall the icon...will get back with that....
Can't do both ...pay for a router and a printer
So wondering if i get a wireless printer if I will be able to connect it to the cable until I am able to get the router.
I guess that is about it for now. I know I had other choices to make that were confusing me

Hi Kam
Yep, you can do it that way with no problem. Make sure you read the directions for installing the new printer. Sometimes they want you to install the software before you even hook up the printer. And if you are still on XP make sure the printer you buy will work with XP, it should but safe to check.

OK charged a lexmark wireless printer on my WM charge card.
Friend from CA set it up while she was here. Printed out one correspondence.
Tried to print out another letter this am and printer will not turn on.
This is the problem I had with old printer. Tried reconnecting power cords, etc.
Tried restarting computer.
Trouble shooting message said something about checking firewall.
not sure how to do this.
Not a happy camper this am. This is how I communicate as not able to write long hand.
Don't have router yet but at this point don't know if that would solve the issue or not.
Appreciate any help that helps. HA!

Ok Kam
First make sure it's plugged in and the plug has power. If it's in a strip, sometimes some of those fail so plug a lamp or somehing in first to make sure you have power to the plug.
Once you have established that you have power, look at the printer and see if any lights are on. If there are none on make sure the plug that goes to the back of the printer is in all the way. But make sure you have it unplugged before you check the back.
If you do have lights see if any of them are blinking, it could be a simple paper jam or an ink cartridge came lose. The lights will actually tell you what's wrong.
So now we checked power and connections and we have power, we checked the lights and all is well or at least not blinking now. Now go to your PC and re-boot it and see if it finds your printer.
If none of this works post back here what you found and I'll try to get back to reply. We're on vacation this week but I'll check back so make sure EVEN if YOU fix the problem that you report back here so I don't have to keep checking.
I'm only answering PC questions here till my new site is ready. Hey I gotta slow down.

Ok Kam
Do you have the printer hooked up directly to your PC? If not? Try that first.
If you still have a problem maybe call the tech support for the printer and they could probably walk you through. No power to the printer though could be you just got a bad printer and need to take it back.
Doin fine with the vacation too, thanks.

Steve, Thanks for the idea of contacting Epsom.
I will do that when I am able to be on the phone. Sometimes I consider getting a TTY not because I am deaf but because communicating via the keyboard is more reliable for me.
Don't think it is a bad printer as old printer did the same thing when I connected it to the new used CPU...well actually the maintenance man connected it.
Too much pressure in the brain right now to see if it is connected directly to the CPU.

It is working. Not as a wireless yet but don't really need it to be.

Hi Kam
Well to work as a wireless printer you need a wireless router so if you don't have one of them just use it that way.
How did you fix it?

In true lyme brain fog...I had a clear moment and figured out that I needed to have the light switch on.
