Okay, my cat was walking all over the keys and stepped on something. I tried to cancel whatever was occurring, but whatever I did, it's all messed up. When I press jkl;, I get 123+. Any ideas how to undo that or what I did?

My daughter had me create a new 'windows' account to even be able to log onto my current AOL and Lymenet accounts. She said that means whatever I did was confined to my old Windows. Any ideas? I'd ask my cat, but he's pleading the fifth!

According to your post on the seizure topic I would take it you are trying to find a save document you filed? Try closing all programs like AOL etc. and click on start and go into documents and all your filed items downloaded should show I hope.
I don't know what version of windows you have but go into your documents and see what comes up or 2nd choice click on the computer icon and should have documents listed then click on it -not sure if one or dble click....the file you are looking for should be in your documents unless in the past you deleted it and put it in your recycle bin.
If it is in your recycle bin still -click on restore and it will come back to documents. This MAY help

Thanks, that's not the only problem though...getting into my old documents.

I can't even log onto my AOL from the other Windows User Account now (my old one) because my password refuses to type in 'right'. Some keys type the correct letter or number, but some don't...like typing in jkl; comes up 123+ ...? How can that be?

I don't have a PC, and I haven't done technical support for many years now, but it sounds like your kitty helpfully changed your keyboard layout for you.

I'm not sure if this will work, but I did a google for the phrase "reset windows default keyboard layout" (without the quotation marks), and found this bit of advice someone else received:

"To select a keyboard layout

Open On-Screen Keyboard.

On the Keyboard menu, select the following keyboard options:

Select the keyboard layout.
To use a keyboard layout which includes the numeric keypad, choose Enhanced Keyboard.

To use a keyboard layout that does not include the numeric keypad, choose Standard Keyboard.

Select the way the keys appear on the keyboard.

To display keys as they would normally appear on a standard keyboard, choose Regular Layout."

If that doesn't work, try performing the google search string I mentioned above, and see what other advice might be out there.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! Actually the 'system restore' did it for me. I was looking for a 'system restore' button, but couldn't find one. (I know...duh! [Wink]

By the way, the solution to your original problem:

a) I assume you have a laptop, or some kind of keyboard without a number pad.

b) Your cat hit the "num lock" key, which turns part of your regular keyboard into a 10-digit entry pad. J, k, l and ; correspond to 1, 2, 3, and + when in this mode.

All you have to do is hit the numlock key again.

Sorry I didn't read this earlier.
