how many messages does the mailbox hold? I only have about 10 total (in and ) and it seems some have disappeared! It's hard to keep track of who I have replied to.

Did you scroll down to see the ones you have sent?
It theoretically holds 60 messages, but mine shuts down at about 40.

They keep disappearing on me! I just replied to one, and now it is gone out of my IN box! I know I had others in the IN box, but they're gone too.

The only messages showing at the top of your profile page are those messages which are in the "Incoming Private Messages" list.
They disappear when you reply because they are moved to the "Sent Private Messages" list down below.
Scroll all the way down the page to find the list of sent messages...
