I was so inspired by the CALDA meeting on activism which accompanied the ILADS meeting this last October that I returned home to Texas and spent the next two months studying our state statutes in preparation for participatiing in our state's upcoming legislative session in order to help make our Texas Medical Board more hospitable to LLMDs in the future.

What I learned in the process was utterly mind-boggling. Therefore, I would like to share it so that Lyme activists in other states can benefit from what I learned because these same problems of "sham peer review" by state medical boards are fairly common in many other states also.

Here is a link to my testimony as it appears on our state's official website for the Texas Sunset Commission, which examines all state agencies on a regular basis, including the Texas Medical Board.

I would welcome communication with any lay activists in other states who are interested in similar citizen participation efforts in order to insure that your state laws are favorable for physicians in your state whenever your LLMDs must defend themselves against unjust complaints before their state medical boards.

BTW, I want to explain why I placed equal emphasis on CFS and FM together with Lyme disease. This was done at the request of a Texas LLMD who has been harrassed and persecuted unmercifully (and almost continuously for over ten years) and who expressed great anxiety that any efforts on my part could perhaps make waves which might splash back on him. Thus, I deliberately toned-down any reference to Lyme disease by lumping it together with these other chronic diseases out of respect for his deep concerns and his unique situation.
