I recently read an article stating "Thus an alarm has been sounded by public health and infectious disease organizations over President Obama's proposed 2011 budget, in which 100 percent of funding would be cut for the CDC's surveillance and outbreak control programs of vector-borne disease such as dengue, West Nile, LaCrosse encephalitis and Lyme disease."
Can anyone verify this information about proposed 100% cuts to CDC's vector-borne diseases surveillance and outbreak control programs?

Between September 2000 and January 2001, the Sudan subtype of the Ebola virus infected 425 cases, including 224 deaths, making this the largest epidemic so far documented of Ebola. This was the first reported emergence of the Sudan Ebola virus since 1979. * From October 2001 to December 2003, several Ebola outbreaks of the Zare subtype were reported in Gabon and the Republic of the Congo with a total of 302 cases and 254 deaths.

$365M for one building but they can't fund people for the buildings????
But then vectorborne diseases are bad news and bad for business, so maybe the budgeters decided we could do without them. On the other hand, what have they ever done for lyme patients? Made our lives more difficult. Don't they understand that patient groups are their natural constituents, the people who raise a fuss and get funding?
Or maybe the vaccine business is the only one that counts.

Yep- What I want to know is how they thought they were worth the millions? They have ignored those vector born disease for years---
Now they are finding the ones most thought were in only other countries completely spread across the US....
How do we support thieves that did not do their job of protecting this country?
