I do NOT want to discuss politics here so don't make me. But...

I do want to give you a head's up to watch the Presidential Debate on Wednesday night, probably on most TV stations.

Mitt Romney and President Obama called me tonight and told me they would be discussing Lyme disease issues during the debate.

If my sources are correct, you'll want to tune in.

Wow that would be amazing!

I hung up on Mitt's call. I wish I would have listened now. What time do you think it will be? I am an independent and am interested to see what is said.

Are you being serious about the debate and addressing Lyme issues tonight?

I really did speak with President Obama at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno in July. My father who works for the VFW was able to get my family and I backstage passes to have a family photo taken with him after his speech to the veterans.

During that time backstage, my father mentioned to President Obama that I am battling chronic Lyme disease and I have been terribly ill for years. My 2 little boys and husband were with me.

He was wonderful in his response to my family and me about how he is very aware of what is going on with Lyme, etc. and that he knows there is a need for more research. He said he felt terrible about our situation (the answer was a perfect politician's answer of what we wanted to hear, I know this). BUT he seemed very genuine and concerned in his response to us. He even mentioned Senator Blumenthal to us without us mentioning anything to him.

We met and took a photo with Mitt Romney the next day (he spoke the 2nd day of the VFW convention) and did NOT mention Lyme because we were rushed through. I REALLY wish we would've now!

Not talking politics here...just the fact that we did actually discuss Lyme with President Obama and it was an honor for my family to have a picture taken with the President of the United States, as well as the Governor of MA.

So, I'm just wondering if they will really address Lyme in tonight's debate?? I would be amazed!

I love debates. Thanks Tincup, I hope you're right about them discussing lyme.

WOW, that would be AMAZING.....

I am an editor and I edit tons of political articles on a weekly basis. I would not get your hopes up that Lyme will be discussed in any debates. Obviously health care will be, but a serious discussion that mentions much about lyme is TREMENDOUSLY unlikely. Jess.

You're probably right Jess.

Catgirl, trust me on this-it will not happen. As I said, I edit mainly political pieces and this is a silly thread, really. I hate to see anyone get their hopes up over something that is just not going to happen. I also think this thread should be moved out of medical ASAP. Jess.

Moving to Activism

Interestingly enough, OccupyTheDebates is also happening tonite, with a panel of Occupiers I believe from Wash DC who are going to be commenting on the debate,

starting a half hour early and then during the debate, and then analyzing all their statements afterwards - it's happening live on UStream.

Also, we have third party candidates Rocky Anderson from the Justice Party and Jill Stein from the Green Party on the radio at the same time.

So I'm planning on a three-way tonite!

Good work Droid and chastain!

Any more complaints from you two? Or can we carry on as adults here and actually have a NON-POLITICAL discussion about a possible NEWS worthy event?

[Roll Eyes]

And to respond to the sincere comments- yes, it would be amazing! The mention of Lyme would be a 1st in this type of setting and a HUGE step forward for all of us, something we've worked hard to do!

Years ago, and for MANY years, you couldn't pay to have the word Lyme mentioned on any TV station or in any newspaper or magazine. We've come a LONG way baby!

Randi- I know. Don't know how else to get the word out for those genuinely interested without being shoved in the mud by the few trouble makers. But, sticks and stones.... been there, done that.

Personally, I wasn't going to watch the debate, but this changed my mind so I thought maybe others would be interested.

Jwall- That is a great story and bless your hearts for trying to make a difference at such important events and at that level too! Way to go!

Catgirl- I hope the info I got is correct too! Of course I can't confirm it at this late hour- not that I'd even be privy to that sort of info if I tried- but just letting you all know about the possibility.

If you think about it, the sudden increase in trash articles- a typical response when the IDiots know something that could help us, or hurt them, is coming out - gets me thinking the IDSA is believing this may happen too and are scrambling to try to do some damage control.

My bet is they (CDC/IDSA) are all over the current administration with their "evidenced based science" approach and are pushing their measly flawed studies as proof they are right. Let's see if the CDC is mentioned tonight.

And just so you know...

If I have to watch that whole debate just to find out if the word Lyme is mentioned and it isn't, no one will be more disappointed than I will! HA!

Every red-blooded American should be watching the debates. It doesn't matter if they talk about Lyme disease or not.

(well.. or is it blue-blooded?)

** note - all comments insulting to other members will be removed. As will discussion over the moderators' work on the board. If you have a problem with a thread, report it. All threads that were moved were moved to the proper forums.

There is some overlap between politics and activism, which is why some threads mention political candidates. Don't cross the line and discuss politics, this isn't the place. **

It was just a request for consistency. Awesome, maybe more people will come to the Activism thread now.

The closest I heard was "Well, I'm..." - say it quickly!

Rats and double rats!

Romney came SO close three times by saying he wants people to have choices in their medical treatment and it should be freedom of choice, etc., but no one said the magic word I was hoping for!

At least I didn't get hurt during the debate! Don't laugh, but I darn near fell out of my chair leaning sideways at one point to hear the TV in the other room, but I caught myself before the floor jumped up and hit my face.

[lol]

Maybe during the next debate? We can hope! We can dream!

i dont even know what is politics and what isnt-but i am glad about the discussion...lyme was mentioned on the sunday news shows last week...thats big exposure

but when i read what the candidate is calling for i read all idsa "facts" and the one "cure is that place in AZ that ppl on here consider very expensive but not helpful curing lyme. maybe...it helps with detox. but not lyme

so-i dont know what to think about the whole thing

is it good to get exposure when the facts that come out are idsa ones?

randi-i think a lot of us wonder about that-but i KNOW if she rides horses in VA she has to know about lyme

Most all famous or even well known people have MS, ALS, Parkinson, etc. I guess it sounds better, they won't be judged by the powers that be with that LYME word. I've dealt with this personally with well knowns within KY.

Very few labeled "lyme" vs "all other illnesses".
Cause unknown illnesses are popular and is much easier to handle/tx.

We should count our blessings that we have found the CAUSE. Millions are not as fortunate. Now the wait for the cure.
