He leaves a 12 year old girl and a college age boy plus his wife. His parents cared for him to give the wife some rest. What do you say when this happens. He was under treatment from an LLMD.

His wife and daughter had just come back from a meet in CA for gymnastics. She is 12 and was 7th out of the nation. He ran a fever of 107.6, they packed him in ice to get it down, but all his organs failed.
The family did not get back to see him lucid.

I would like to ask which hospital told him this was not Lyme. I grew up in Annapolis and had to stay there with my Mom and Dad over the summer when my vacation was ended on my way to VT. Could not drive any further.

I was so sick and ended up at Anne Arundel General. I saw three doctors in that area...Cardiologist, Blood Pressure Specialist and ER doctor while having a herx on doxycycline...I couldn't feel my arm, was sweating, heightened startle response, obviously sick...had been since May 2004 with no diagnosis...Saw this hospital in August...

Turns out I have/had positive IgM's and IgG's for lyme, Ehrlichia both hme and hge, and Babesia - I was extremely ill - the best the ER there could do for me when I suggested Lyme (they knew I was on day 5 of doxy) was tell me to smile - look for Bell's Palsy - Label it some kind of Parathesis and tell me to see a neurologist...

They will be getting a letter from me and if I find out that this poor man got the same brush off from them that they gave me my letter will be even more searing...

I have had it with the ignorance, denial, and stigma...they need to start listening NOW...I am not going to be silent about this...

This news hurts...I will be sending my condolences...I grew up twenty minutes from the church on Riva Road...

I went to 16 different docs. I went to a JH neuro that trained the others and did not believe in lyme. My daughter was herxing so bad and eyes hurting so that he told her to sit in a closet-type room where she would not disturb the other patients. Thank goodness he retired finally. This was in 1995 but I continued with him until 2000. I went to 16 docs in Maryland. I was one that testified.

Now thank goodness we know which doctors can treat lyme.

Ellen, it was so sad to just hug his wife and tell her I am so sorry. We held each other for a few minutes. She had been at one of our meetings the month before trying to find out more info.

This hits home since I have lived in the Annapolis/Crofton/Bowie area all my life until getting married.

I remember when I used to think JH was the best hospital around....

As for JH, if anyone has money to "P" away..That is the place to go..An all day consultation and $700 later with only $100 covered and no help and they were certain it was all psychiatric issues and could not be lyme..We would almost be wasting our time to proceed down that path..

But why not admit her for a couple of weeks so they could play around with some other psych drugs. Think we were quoted about $1000 a day and it would all be non-reimbursable since she was currently not a suicide threat..

On the way out the door they suggested that if we did not do that, we must at least up her meds times 4...Gotta love JH

Went through IgeneX and had many bands present on my WB for Lyme IgMs and IgGs, Ehrlichia hme and hge, and Babesia...typical story...

I will say though that the JH doctor rxed three months of doxy at 200 mg a day and told me to find another doc when I got home...

He also wrote an excuse note for a camp I had been registered to go to and said he suspected chronic Ehrlichiosis...

I felt we were talking in codes when I was at JH - he never came out and said tick borne illness...but his actions pointed strongly that direction...

All to do with insurance.

Gambrills gymnast to compete in nationals

Docksiders Gymnastics in Millersville has trained aspiring gymnasts in Anne Arundel County since 1975 and current owners Bob and Kim Ouellette continue to turn out top notch athletes.

One of them, 13-year-old Rachel Fincham, is the pride of her Gambrills neighborhood. The teenager recently placed in the top seven in a regional gymnastics competition in Allentown, Pa. As a result, she will compete Thursday through May 15 in the United States Association of Gymnastics Junior Olympic Nationals in Ontario, Calif. Her goal is to place among the top four competitors in her age group.

Those four are awarded a trip to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs to train with the national team coaches. Rachel qualified for the nationals by competing in four disciplines: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

Rachel's family is elated about her success and her mother, Linda, plans to accompany her to the competition.

"Rachel worked really hard to achieve her goal of going to nationals," Mrs. Fincham said. "She is an amazing gymnast and I am so proud of her determination, her hard work and her wonderful spirit."

However, Rachel's achievements are tempered by challenges for the Finchams at home.

Rick Fincham is his daughter's most ardent supporter in spite of having been stricken with a serious illness a year ago which resulted in a loss of mobility.

Bob Oullette explained that Rick was incredibly involved with the gymnastics program at Docksiders until his health worsened and he was unable to work in landscaping.

If Rachel's excited by the chance to compete in the nationals, she doesn't necessarily show it. Instead, her thoughts turn immediately to her father.

"It's been a tough year knowing my dad has been too ill to come to our meets. However, every time I compete, I know he's there in spirit and is still so proud of me for everything I do."

Rachel's Docksiders teammates and trainers express the same kind of concern.

"They were always a supportive and helpful family. They are wonderful people who would do anything for anybody. We feel like now it's our turn to help. We'd like to give back," said Mr. Oullette.

A group of staff members and families from the school, spearheaded by Kim Oullette, have done just that.

Their contributions have ranged from fund-raising to surprising the family a couple weeks ago with landscaping, carpentry and other home improvement efforts that may have slipped by as the Finchams have struggled with Mr. Fincham's health problems.

Neighbors in the Finchams' Four Seasons community had the same idea.

To help her achieve her goals they have set up an account for her at Sun Trust Bank in Gambrills. Their initial aim was to offset expenses incurred by Rachel and Linda for the trip to California. Looking ahead, however, the fund could possibly contribute to some Olympic or other opportunity in her future. They are hoping for more donations to this benefit fund.

Helping Rachel will mean the difference between sending a quartet or a quintet to the national competition.

Four other Maryland girls - who also train at Docksider Gymnastics qualified in the top seven as well. Two, Alexis Green and Toi Garcia, are Anne Arundel County residents. The others, Stephanie Ouellette and Krystal Welsh, are from Howard and Prince George's counties, respectively.All are level-10 national qualifiers, technically the highest level aside from elite gymnasts who compete internationally.

Training and competing at such a high level can be taxing, both physically and finacially. The team's trip to California is one example. A USAG organization raises money to defray the costs for their travel expenses.

However, parents are still responsible for a portion of the total cost, about 25 percent including gymnast and coaching fees. The girls are housed as a team in a hotel with the other competitors and coaches, but parents who attend pay their own way.

We have an angel that brings the lyme people to us and her name is Kim. She does not have lyme but cares that the other ones do.

It hits home.

I posted the article that was done about his daughter and her gymnastics/olympics (it was before he passed) and will be sending in a donation to help her/her mother out.

Even with incredible joint pain, numbness, headaches, heart involvement, sudden HBP (160/110), facial drop, vertico, syncope, severe thirst & voiding, weight loss, lymphedema in arm and so on.

Was told to see a ID with AA, and then on to the neuros at JH.

I made an appt. w/ a LLMD instead.
