My LLNP just notified us that one of her patients died yesterday- the cause unknown. How often do people die from Lyme-is it that Lyme attacks every organ and then the body shuts down? I've taken all of this Lyme stuff with a grain of slat- now I'm scared!

Sorry to hear about the death. Very tragic indeed.
I wrote an article a few years back titled..
"Rarely Fatal Disease Takes More Lives"
Lyme is considered to be "rarely fatal" according to the CDC.
I have lost 13 close friends and family members to Lyme. Some of our Lyme Net members have died.
I have the obituaries of two Lyme patients who died in Maryland so far this year. There may be more... just happened to see those two.
In my opinion.. one death is one too many.
And Lyme can attack every organ... and can also cause complications, which leads to death in some.
Sorry to alarm you.. but Lyme is NOT to be taken lightly.
Take good care of you... and be sure to be active in the fight to make Lyme right.
Thanks!

yes, people do die of this disease, but the "cause" of death can be something to do with the heart or brain or other organ. They won't list the official cause as "neuroborreliosis" or any variation of that.
Lyme disease is a serious disease. the more co-infections and type of infections and the individual's immune system and even genetic makeup all influence the outcome of the disease.
People probably die of lyme all the time, misdiagnosed as something else. ALS, MS, Lupus; those are all potentially fatal diseases that are often cases of misdiagnosed lyme or have lyme as a contributing factor.
Those in power have been taking it lightly or with a grain of salt for too long and that is why there are deaths. The ignorance will continue until it is taken seriously.

Before I got my C-PAP machine I was unknowingly waking up every five minutes from pain and sinus problems (and twice a night because I'm fat). I literally was sleeping all the time but getting no REM. How long can you live with no REM?
I remember laying in bed and thinking I knew why people died--they just got so tired they couldn't go on --they gave up.
It is a wonder I didn't fall asleep at the wheel of my car.
Who knows how many deaths are related to lyme.

Let me clarify this- I guess I need to take this lightly since I don't want to alarm my teenagers- they do know when Mom is near death- and believe me, I've been there. Just when you think you're getting better, the herx comes on big time and puts me in bed. I just want to die...If I were complaining day in and day out, they'd totally ignore me and when I'm really sick, they wouldn't be as understanding. I know I have to be healthy in order to be a better mom and be "around" for them as they grow up and I do take care of myself-as much as I can.But they're my biggest worry, not the Lyme.

I had a friend die from Lyme disease. She was 38 years old and left behind 4 beautiful children.
She was taking too much Celebrex. So she really died from the medication but if it were not for the disease she never would have taken the drug. This was before it was taken off the market.
