What kind of mattress does everyone have?
I am consistentlly waking up with back pain. And allthough I can still blame it on Lyme and Fibromyalgia I know that when I sleep on a better bed it goes away.
Im so scared to buy and new bed as I made a mistake twice in getting the wrong one. Once it was too hard, traded it for a pillow top (too soft)
and most recentlly I got one thats too hard again only to sell it on craigslist.
Im also affraid of the new chemical smell.
Memory foam mattresses feel great but when they are new they give me extreme vertigo, sweats, ear pain, brain fog. Its no good!
Help!

I have a firm Sealy.
I love it. It's sooooo comfy. I like the firm mattresses a lot.

I use a treated 4 inch mattress memory foam pad from overstock.com I mention overstock.com because it had a note inside the matteress saying it contained a safe additive that would block the "off-gassing". And it did.

thanks again James, I know that youve answered before and I have been talking about this for a while. But most of us on this board repeat things over and over.
At times repeating things are necessary.

Also, I dont believe that the Brigada doesnt have a smell.
I think you are right that "You" didnt smell anything. But sometimes those smells are odourless or they deaded your senses so you cant smell anything.
I know that right away my nose gets dry and my throat irritated if I smell the memory foam. Then after that I cant smell much of anything, even though my throat hurts and Im dizzy and sick.
I even smelled the ComforPedic by Simmons which shouldnt have a smell. It did though and it smelled like faint memory foam.
Those petro chemicals are potent!

Ok, well Im just wondering if the Bragada mattress doesnt have so much of an odour then why dont they advirtize it as such?
I aired it out for 2 days and didnt notice too much of a smell, then I put it on my new bed.
My throat closed up and my head felt like a basketball bouncing up and down. It was terrible. I eneded up returning it.
I originally got it from healthy foundations because a couple of reviews mentioned how it had little to no smell.
I think I am sensitized. And unfourtunatelly a little smell goes a long way in messing me up and making it so I dont want to live!
I never used to be like this.
If I could trully air the bed out for months, then I would use it. But I dont want to take those chances.
This is the sad reality of developing MCS. I hope none of you on this board get to this point. Its even more of a hell then what you thought you were dealing with before.
And to Randi. Sterns and Foster are good mattresses I hear. They last forever. They have very good support.
I think Im stuck shopping in clearence. Im still to nervous to get something brand new that stinks, literally.
I even go into mattress stores and smell the product. Sometimes this is dangerous!

My current mattress is too soft. I'm pretty unhappy with it, and it's a King Size. I'll just have to get used to it though. Anyway to firm up a pill top?

Metallic....
Years ago before I even thought of lyme I decided to get a new bed.
Mine was sagging.
I went to Bobs because someone I worked with at the time suggested it.
I went there and after one minute picked out the firm mattress.
I slept on it for 2 weeks before I realized that it was terrible and too hard!
So what did I do? I returned it for the only other one they had there. A pillow top mattress.
Nedless to say that was also terrible because it was too soft!
I still have it in the spare room and I try to sleep on it every once in a while.
Its worse then the firm mattress. All the muscles in my back ache from it and I get very very poor sleep with it being too soft.
So my suggestion is to go with a plush. Too soft is not good and neither is too firm.

That's where I got my mattress too. Bob's Furniture. He's stuff is usually pretty good, but for me personally this isn't probably the best. I guess my body needs something a little more firm. Also, I had the same "sagging" issue. I still do.
The frame they use under the beds for the Kings are pieces of ****. Especially the older ones.

I recommend an air-mattress, with a continuous air flow pump, so it re-distributes your weight perfectly with every move you make.
The only minor annoyance is that the pump does make a little bit of a noise, similar sounding to a room fan on its lowest speed.
That said, I wouldn't trade it for the world. If you're in bed sick a lot, it's worth it to get something that will not make you sore and add to your problems.

in the last year i have boght a mattress and two toppers of the memory foam.
they are very comfortable to me. i out gass them at first-for a few days.
i have a history of chem sensitivities and was extreememly sensitive when i got a new laptop-it took a year beofore i could use it without gettig sick
my concern is mold-was it six goofy or someone else here that opened her memory foam mattress and it was black???
i checked my mattress and it is ok-but one of the toppers i use in my camper-the camper was parked-not used for about a month-when i went to make the bed i noticed the beginning of what looks like black mold starting...i aired it out in hot sun and sprayed a mold killer on it---and i don't get sick (that i know of) when sleeping on it...but i am wondering...is this substance they are made of exceptionally susceptable to mold?
i have to keep an eye on this because usually i really react to mold...

we had a sleep number that had mold in it.
then a sterns and foster that was so-so...
THEN, we spent the night at a Marriott hotel about 6 months ago and ordered their bed the NEXT Day!
it's like floating in heaven - a combination of soft springs and memory foam ...
It's the best i've found for my hurting legs.

I have MCS and got a natural latex mattress from LifeKind.com It is chemical free, dust mites can't live in natural latex and my husband's asthma went away when we got rid of our pillow top (even though it had organic dust mite cover) I also go us natural wool pillows, dust mites don't like wool either.

Tempurpedic; love it.
It has helped immensely with deeper, better quality sleep, and less pain. I wouldn't trade it.

I just swapped my frame from Bobs for one thats a flat board. My back is much better.
I think now I am getting 1/2 inch more support.
I still need something new though. I cant wait untill I am waking pain free.
Im thinking of buying cheap again and adding my own foam. At least I know whats going into it.
The one at the hotel they want $1000 for. Are you kidding me? And thats directlly from Simmons.

Natural Latex mattresses ROCK. The Talalay brand comes in several firmness options. Also, the way they're constructed, you can buy it with the inner layers made of different firmnesses, and depending on which side of the mattress you put facing 'up' you'd have either a firmer or softer mattress.
The way they set up the firmness is by layering two 3" thick pieces of the latex foam inside a washable and sometimes organic mattress cover to make a 6" thick mattress.
My firm one is made of two identical pieces of 'firm' foam so it's identical on either side, but my ex-boyfriend's mattress was a medium firm, which meant he had one piece of 'firm' foam on one side and one piece that was a little bit 'softer' on the other and he could theoretically have set up the mattress with either end up depending on preferences or if he changed his mind about what he wanted it to be like.
