I assume you are using it in conjunction with doctor ordered treatment for hypothyroidism. Some people use lugol's solution instead, because it is cheaper than iodoral. However, it is liquid and too messy to travel with. So, lugol's works better for home, iodoral for on the road.
Not sure you should be self treating if you have decided to do this on your own. But it can be hard to find a knowledgeable thyroid doc.

I do not have thyroid issues. The LLMD recommended it to boost immune system and to help with my fibrocystic breasts. One 12.5 pill daily.

I am on Ioderal. LLMD has me on it. Hypothryoid, Armour too.
I get Ioderal at a compound pharm, not pricey at all.

You can get tested for your iodine levels, called the iodine loading test, to determine if you have a deficiency.
My LLMD says all of the patients he's tested are low in iodine, so recommended supplementing for a while and THEN testing. In the long run you would want to check, to make sure you don't overdose. In the short term, that amount won't hurt you to try, and see if it affects your symptoms.
I found I started sleeping more soundly almost immediately after starting the Iodoral.

I took it, but I didn't notice much benefit from it. I had hypothyroid symptoms, but I don't believe it was due to my iodine levels (they weren't low). However, I've heard it has helped many people, so it's definitely worth as shot.
One pill is just the average recommended daily dose that should come from your diet, but typically don't get -- I'm assuming.

To me it just seems odd that levels wouldn't be checked first before taking it. I have decided at this point not to take it.

i tried but it made me sick . nautious i think.
remember it matters where you live...not everyone is low in iodine.
if the docs patient load comes from a certain area his patients may tend to be low.

I am taking Iodoral also at the direction of my LLMD.
I am hypothyroid, so that is the primary reason for taking it.
I did have fibrocystic breast disease and my doctor said the Iodoral would cure this. I have to admit that I didn't quite believe him, but 18 months later my breast tissue was normal...no sign of fibrocystic tissue.
I think it's a great product.

Bringing this up again. Anyone taking this currently?
Did/does it make you feel better? I took this in 2010 and for the life of me can't remember how I felt on it. Was told to start up again so just throwing it out there.
My levels are borderline Hypo again... and doc says this will help.
Anyone?

I am taking it, 1/2 of a 12.5 mg tablet each day.
Note that there is some mis-info above, as 12.5 mg is way way above the USRDA, 8333% of it, as it happens. I believe the USRDA is 150 mcg, which is 0.15 mg. (USRDA is not magic or anything, but just to be accurate about what it is.)
Some do take it with the intention of increasing concentration of iodine in tissue, most commonly breast tissue, and decrease odds of cancer.
Others take it for thyroid.
Do note that taking too much iodine can also turn off thyroid hormone production. From what I have heard, it is possible that 12.5mg could be enough to do that for some people.

I take it. I love it. I can only tolerate a sliver of a pill right now, but I'm working my way up.

Thanks everyone... Will start this up again soon. Hate how this all screws up the thyroid, energy, etc!
Thanks Keebler, I'll look at the link!

I take it and another kind. Whatever muscle tests positive for me. One day I only need 1/4 of a tablet. Another day I need a whole one (the thyroid doesn't want the same thing everyday).
