THE COMBINATION OF EMF/RF IS MAKING PEOPLE VERY ILL. deadly ill. Lyme and EMF/RF contributed to my husband's quick death.

You don't want a Smart Meter at your house or apartment, whether you have Lyme or not. Be sure and check. The picture on this site is the old analog one, which is the one you want to have.

Our (digital) Smart Meter aka AMR was installed inside our property, without any notification to us. Unless you look close, it does not look much different. The pulsed radio frequency microwaves penetrate walls and windows and the neighbors' output hit you left and right and from across the street. There is no escaping inside the house or outside in the yard or street. !!!!!!!!!!

Be aware!

If you own your own home, I don't see how they can just come in and install one. I don't want one!

Not cool. where are our rights?? How much did it cost you to opt out? I have a bad feeling that my dh won't want to pay it.

I honestly don't see how they see this is a good thing.

Please find the different links I have posted on April 8 above, where you can sign a petition against this nonsense. We have to do all we can. Not much is worse than this, because we are affected 24/7 and every minute and second. If you have times when you can't think straight, keep an eye out for EMF and RF and Smart Meters.

Mine was installed without my knowledge at the side of our house. Puget Sound Energy removed the old analog meter and installed new digital "Smart Meter" also called "AMR" when we were away from the house.

My husband, sick with Lyme, was sitting out on the deck in good weather every day, a few feet away from the Smart Meter. I don't know how long ago it was done and unless I get a lawyer involved, I can't get a straight answer when they installed it. He went downhill very fast and has passed away end of last October. I have no doubt whatsoever that the radiation was a huge problem for him and hastened his death.

I am testing my home now with Gigahertz Solution Meter HFE 35C and find certain areas of my home that are intolerable.

I cannot see how we can protect outselves in our yards, because the radiation is coming from all directions - next door and across the street.
It penetrates walls, roofs and windows!!!!!!

Microbes flourish like rabbits when exposed to certain EMF and RF ----- , including viruses that may have been dormant for years. We have the science. If we still have excessive toxic metals in the body, how will that make us feel?

Don't we have some electrician/experts on Lymenet? Dr. K. has talked and warned about this problem since I have known him -- for 14 years. I did not do much until I measured the output of the Smart Meter in and outside of our home. It's got to be a killer.

Get rid of Smart Meters!

P.S. Opting out? These meters are being installed everywhere, around the world.

Not in NJ - thank God! They said it was too expensive. The question I have is why was it considered too expensive in NJ & OK on the West Coast?

http://www.nj.com/business/index.ssf/2010/10/in_nj_smart_meter_program_stym.html

excerpt-

Smart meters have become popular around the country, with utilities from Texas to California installing them on homes and businesses as a way to help cut energy consumption and better manage peak electricity demand.

But if you live in New Jersey, dont expect to get a smart meter of your own any time soon. Despite their initial enthusiasm, the states major utility companies have dropped plans to install the devices on a widespread basis, citing cost concerns and resistance from regulators.

The reversal has been rapid. Just two years ago, then governor Jon Corzine asked utilities to install smart meters to help residents better manage their energy use and cut their bills, and possibly forestall the need to build more power plants.

Public Service Enterprise Group, the states largest utility with 2.1 million customers, and the smaller Atlantic City Electric responded with plans for wide-scale deployment. But by last year, they had quietly withdrawn their proposals.

The problem for New Jersey regulators, like for regulators in Ohio and Maryland, who recently approved smart-meter plans after protracted deliberations, was figuring out how to pay for the meters, which cost $230 to $250 a piece.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities and the Ratepayers Advocate did not want to pass the cost along to all of the ratepayers, said Ralph LaRossa, president and chief operating officer of Newark-based PSE&G, leaving the thorny issue of who would pick up the millions of dollars in rollout expenses.

----

We all know what happened to Corzine... (maybe?) since then. These things are being implimented & passed through without proper review - like the airport "scanners". It's a agenda. The scanners have been outlawed in Europe... Not sure what's going to happen with the so-called Smart Meters.

Europe bans 'naked' airport scanners over cancer fears

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/article-2062646/Naked-airport-X-ray-body-scanners-banned-Europe-cancer-fears.html

excerpt-

The EC has halted all new trials of the machines while a safety report is compiled. A final decision about rolling out the scanners across Britain and the Continent will be made next year.

The decision comes after American academic Dr David Brenner warned last summer that he believed the scanner could deliver up to 20 times more radiation to the skin than previously thought - potentially increasing the risk of skin cancer.

However, other scientists disagree and the Health Protection Agency in England says the scanners are safe for travellers to go through as many as 5,000 times a year.

--

The machines were also used at Heathrow, but scrapped amid complaints about invasion of privacy.
They have been tested in Germany, France, Italy, Finland and Holland but will be completely banned in April if experts rule they are dangerous.

These things were implimented but things can change... Don't give up.

So, just went the page for PBE, my power company, to opt out.

It's $85. the first month to opt out ($75. +$10. for the first month) - and then $10. a month for each month on-going. Seems unfair.

Who's got $85. to pay? No one in this 200 apt-complex where turn over is very high.

They would all have to agree but as they are not the property owners, it may not even be their choice.

Big Sigh. Different companies, different states, have different fees. Not all are the same.

Good news, there are some organizations trying to lift the "fines" to opt out.

http://signon.org/sign/pge-smart-meter-fees

Sign the NO FEES PETITION - PGE

NEW goal - We need 2,000 signatures; There are currently 1,742 signatures

Not clear if one has to be a PGE customer to sign the petition

Tempers flare at workshop on smart meters

. . . NEVADA, NV ENERGY -- One-time fees for an opt out would range from $110 for non-communicating smart meters to $180 for analogs. Monthly charges would be $14 to $15.

The California Public Utilities Commission is mulling a $90 opt-out fee and $15 monthly charge,

though Pacific Gas & Electric had asked for a one-time charge of about $270 for non-communicating meters.

The Oregon Public Utility Commission has approved a $254 one-time charge to opt for a non-communicating meter, plus a $51 monthly charge.

In Maine, opting out costs $20 to $40, then $12 a month.

Other commissions, such as Oklahoma's, have rejected opt-outs. . . .

There are so many types of EMF's, nothing for $14 will measure all of this well.

The microwaves (such as from Stupid Meters) absolutely can be stopped, all you need is the right kind of metal. There are a variety of metal sheets or fabrics available that can do this. lessemf.com is one place where I have bought some of these things.

Sorry. The microwaves cannot be stopped. Not inside your house unless you build a complete Farraday Cage around the total house structure.

Then you open the door -- back door - front door - any door -- or jump out of the window -- you have the radiation right outside, in your yard, back or front yard. At that point the neighbors' "smart meters", on both sides and from across the street will send you their radiation from their Smart Meters, and you get hit from every angle.

Walking barefoot on the ground???? How do you want to get away from this radiation???
Opting out is not a choice. Check how many hidden and known microwave towers are near you. www.antennasearch.com

If you paint the outside or inside of your house with the recommended paint, you have to reveal it when you sell. Curtains? It still gets into the house. Who would like to sleep inside a curtained farraday cage? The minute you get up in the morning, the waves hit you, in the bathroom, or are you going to stay in the cage all day? Are you going to cook your meals in the cage? Are you staying inside your house all day

Microwaves is a reason why many Lymies are sick and have trouble getting well. Microbes love it. As long as we have toxic metals in us, and I don't know many who do not, you become the antenna too!

We are about to cook our own goose! if we have not already cooked it, when we used the first cell phone or wi-fi.

And the worst of all, our kids' brains are being fried! while we are talking about "opting out".

P.S. A very close friend of mine who lives in New Jersey, a former healed Klinghardt patient, just had her "Smart Mete" removed when she called her power company. They came the next day to take it out and put in an old one.

Our electric company just switched our meter to a "smart meter" this fall, but since we are in such a rural area, the meters communicate monthly through the electric wires and not via radio waves. We verified this with our own TriField Meter.

If you think you have a smart meter, you might want to check with your power company as to how it communicates.

Gator-tots -- Great to hear your situation. It seems one approach we might take is to request this form of the meter from our electric companies, even if we are not rural.

One thing to clarify, though, does your meter measure microwaves or just radiowaves. The wireless signals are actually microwaves.

One thing that I definitely do not recommend is simply asking the power company and believing anything they say. It might be nice to ask at least in that it raises awareness that people care, but these people are some combination of liars and idiots.

Many people have been told their stupid meters only transmit very infrequently such as a few times a day when in reality many of these transmit a signal every couple/few seconds. The only way to know the truth is to measure things yourself, that's it, flat out, no exceptions.

I had an electric company guy read the marketing material for the brand they had just installed in my area, which stated how incredibly infrequently the signal was sent. And then I walk through the neighborhood with a meter and the truth revealed itself clearly enough to be something very different. My experience is by no means unique. The website connecting those in California and campaigning against this crap also pointed out the same lies are spoken there.

It is clear to me the variety of human activities are such that we will be extinct in a matter of time, perhaps 2-3-4 decades from now. So, it is a matter of picking the battles to increase what quality of life we may have until then. Certainly the trade-off of forcing regular meters back would be great if we could do it, even if there are some extra costs and global warming extinction would then happen 1 day earlier. In the meantime, shielding is certainly not a 100% solution, but can enormously improve quality of life in the meantime while the wireless terrorists rule the world.

MichaelTampa - The meter I have measures magnetic, electric and radio/microwave signals. Oddly, the worst devices in our house were the microwave, cell phone, and televisions.

Sounds like you've got a good one.

I've always heard the microwave ovens were very bad even just from being plugged in (even when not running). We don't own one, so never got to test that myself, so it is interesting to hear that.

I'm curious what type of TV you have. We almost bought one of the newer types but opted instead for a used CRT ("tube") style TV mostly due to all the fluorescent lights in them, as the fluorescent lights affects me. But I have heard also that fluorescent lights do produce high magnetic fields.

My corded telephone (AT&T) - notice CORDED - was the worst in the room, a little office opening into the kitchen area. Now I know why I heard the radio playing through my telephone; had the phone people here 4-5 times because of CRACKLING INTO MY EARS, and why I could not relax there to pay my bills or write notes.

My GigaHertz Solution meter hit the 200 point, from which is changes to 1. because it can't go any higher.

I am having a Baubiologie trained electrical engineer come and test with other meters to find out more tomorrow.

After my husband's death late October, this house is my anchor and I do not want to leave. Even if I did, where would I go? Myelin takes a looong time to heal -- don't underestimate the damage left behind when Lyme Disease and infections are long gone. Much of this is misunderstood. I listen to one of the few who knows, in my estimation, a lot more than anyone else I have encountered since I got bit in 1996. And do not underestimate toxic heavy metals retained in the body.

It is an ongoing education. My husband often sat under the sun-umbrella on our garden deck about 6 feet from the hidden Smart Meter. I did not find out that we had a Smart Meter until after he passed. I found him dead and blue on the floor in the living room one day, after having run to the pharmacy for one hour. My husband had Lyme Disease (positive lab).

That living room, when testing with meter, is the closest to the property line to my one neighbor's Smart Meter about 10 feet away. Hidden by trees and bushes, but my measuring meter hits the max.

http://stopsmartmeters.org.uk/hacking-expert-david-chalk-joins-urgent-call-to-halt-smart-grid/

It's time to be more than concerned.

Dear Friends,

Here's some more data on wireless devices and "smart meters."

https://app.e2ma.net/app/view:CampaignPublic/id:1401296.11009424665/rid:a7ca85ed63514e8de37174bc1bcd4feb

I'm opting out, but will my neighbors? So. California Edison claims they won't revert to a regular meter once the smart meter is installed. Time to pass out fliers!!

Another case of paying for a service--it costs to opt out--you don't want and that is harmful.

Best,

Cass A

Found out today that my entire metro area's installation was finished last summer.

The AMI meters do "communicate" via radio frequency (not telephone lines as I might have hoped).

Cannot afford to "opt-out" and with apts stacked all around, one less will matter little. I know others here can't afford to opt out, either.

While I know this is a complex topic, I'm pleased that since then, I've not noticed any increased buzzing or noise. [My tinnitus hit high last week and has not come down but that had a clear noise assault trigger.]

Insomnia is much worse now for - can't remember how long - but I attributed that to noisy neighbors who get really agitated with nightfall. Lovely.

The power company did say they've had some buzzing reports and have tried to correct that by changing out the unit, or otherwise better securing it, and it seemed to work.

While this system does not thrill me, some of the "surface" problems may be due to the specific units installed. My guess is that various manufacturers make these and they may not all be as sturdy.

Unseen consequences, of course, are of major concern and I'm far from thrilled about this.

But, barely able to make it through the day just taking care of myself, I have to keep my reaction as calm as possible.

Now, more than ever, Tai Chi and Qi Gong may help to better balance my body's energies. Have to work harder at keeping some "Happy Talk" handy.

I would so love to just move "off grid" but even that for those who might afford it, is getting harder and harder to find land that is free of bombardment.

Sigh.

The one installed in our home is called
"AMR".

Believe me, calling it a different name doesn't change a thing.

Oh, I know. And I hope others who have the energy to do so can make a difference.

I could barely talk to ANY of the three power reps I spoke with today - they all talk so very loud it just about blows me away.

It does anger me that we never saw this coming. I read from several national news sites each day. But, I neglect the local sites and can't tolerate the local newscasts' visual and sound assaults.

Still, looking at my city's newspapers archives, this topic did not receive attention.

I had to drop my subscriptions to Utne Reader, Sierra Club, and the like. So I may have tripped up there.

While some of his works have taken on a cult like "woo-woo" aspect, his experiments are amazing. Absolutely amazing.

Certain meditation, Tai Chi or Qi Gong can offset the body's reaction to electrical currents.

I saw this for myself during a Qi Gong class where all did muscle testing. My arm was very strong.

We held a hair dryer, turned on. Muscle tested again. WIMP, I was - and all others, too.

Did some Qi Gong exercises and muscles then tested strong again.

Now, this may not be the perfect example but I was able to get back on track with a certain kind of focused body movement.

http://sites.google.com/site/nocelltowerinourneighborhood/home/wireless-smart-meter-concerns/health-concerns-grow-consumers-are-getting-sick-from-wireless-smart-meters

"It's one thing to be on a cell phone for one hour per day, but if you are exposed to smart meter or a cell tower, you are exposed 24/7 so the effect is cumulative."

-- Henry Lai, Ph.D.
Professor, Bioelectromagnetics Research Laboratory
Dept. of Bioengineering, University of Washington (Seattle)

Consumers, especially electro-sensitive persons and those with autoimmune and heart conditions, are reporting severe health problems from the RF radiation emitted from the new wireless smart meters. Smart meters use RF pulses to communicate two-way data usage between the smart meter and the smart meters on neighboring structures, as well as relay antennas on nearby utility poles that communicate data to and from the smart meters to the utility station. Concern about the wireless radiation from smart meters is exacerbated by multiple panel installations of smart meters found in multi-residential units (apartments, condos)

"Cumulative" is the important word. gg

I personally have a $2,000 device that I use similar to how PEMF works to strengthen the body. It sends frequencies close to the Earth's frequencies and hopefully drowns out the WiFi from the neighbors.

It does work for me but I have no idea if it reduces EMF sensitivity however.

There is this device that costs $600 but does have a 90 money back guarantee which is similar to what I'm doing.

Here are some quotes from the site.

"EarthPulse pulsed electro-magnetic field mitigates and reverses detrimental effects of higher frequency EMF exposure (microwave/cell phone, radio and 50-60 Hz power frequency electric and magnetic fields) while harmonizing the magnetic fields in the body (BioMagnetic Field) back to homeostasis on a regular nightly basis.

We present anecdotal evidence supporting beneficial effects of EarthPulse pulsed magnetic field therapy device and methods utilizing milligauss pulsed electromagnetic fields to protect against and reverse detrimental effects of microwave (cell phone), radio and power frequency EMF; as well as to balance energy fields in the body where central nervous system imbalances has resulted in sleep disturbance, migraine/headache, depression, disorientation, muscle-twitch or full blown motor and cognitive dysfunction.

If your home or office doesn't have a wireless 2.4 GHz network in it, how do you know your neighbors or the office above or below you don't? If you experience intermittent muscle twitch, it could be due to EMF exposure; 2.4 GHz wireless networks have this effect upon the author, especially if laptop computer's wireless card is in use and device is placed upon the lap.

EarthPulse is effective reducing muscle twitch due to environmental EMF. EarthPulse geomagnetic strength, pulsed magnetic field supplementation theoretically, brings brain and nerve fiber electromagnetic fields back into homeostasis by entraining them..."

Again, I haven't tried that specific device just giving maybe an alternative.

GiGi - FYI - There hasn't been a deployment of Smart Meters in NJ as far as I could find. This was from last summer:

http://www.smartgridlegalnews.com/smart-meter/

I am sure it was not intended to be a debate on the merits of smart meters, but lets just say the discussion got lively as Itrons Dan Pfeiffers comments followed New Jersey Consumer Advocate Stefanie Brands statement.

Stefanie made it clear that in her view, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) also commonly referred to as smart meters, are not so smart and in New Jersey have not been shown to be cost-effective. As a result, New Jersey is not deploying smart meters at this time.

To garner her support, AMI programs should be voluntary and ideally provide consumers rate reductions that are greater than the cost of the meter. Outage protection and remote shut-off is not enough, explained Brand.

---

I've been looking around & most of the products that are supposed to protect you from EMFs, etc. don't work. I don't know about EarthPulse since it's for a different purpose... but most of the stuff out there isn't "proven" to do anything.

Scams Galore

October 20, 2010 "Nobody ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the American public," H.L. Mencken, the American journalist, famously said years ago. And so it continues today, not only in the U.S. but most everywhere else.

The continuing EMF controversy, stimulated by three new books Sam Milham's Dirty Electricity, Devra Davis's Disconnect and Ann Gittleman's Zapped, has fueled the demand for quick fixes. (None of these authors recommends them.) Just about every day, someone contacts us, pitching a new product or, on the consumer side, asking if they do any good.

The gizmos promising protection include bracelets, pendants and headbands. Two of the best-known are BioPro and Q-Link, which have been around for years. They are really no different from all the others. That's to say, they don't work. The most charitable way to describe them would be as placebos, or more appropriately, very expensive placebos.

Last week, for instance, a Canadian outfit called MicroAlpha wrote to us about its Neutralizer, which if installed "before the first frost" would stop "bad electric energy" from rising and stunting plants and trees. It promises that a vineyard, once neutralized, would yield grapes as good as those in France and Italy. The Neutralizer is also available as a "Peace Ball," designed to be worn as a necklace.

It's yours for C$100. Or you can get the ball in an industrial strength version (600 times stronger) for C$450. In line with the old saying, never give a sucker an even break, MicroAlpha recommends that you go for the strongest one you can afford, that is, the most expensive. And for those who have money to burn, there is the mighty Diamond Edition Peace Ball, yours for up to C$8,000. While you're at it, you might want to protect your pets with the "Happy Ball" (C$165-$650).

We should acknowledge that there is one paper in the peer-reviewed literature that claims that these things might actually do something. In 2002, a group led by Rodney Croft, currently the head of the Australian Centre for RF Bioeffects Research, reported in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine that the Q-Link and its Sympathetic Resonance Technology did in fact "have an affect [sic] on neural function."

Croft's paper was sponsored by Clarus Products International, which makes and markets the Q-Link. Croft is now well known as one of Australia's leading defenders of cell phone safety.

Alasdair Philips, the director of Powerwatch, a U.K. advocacy group, took a look at how Croft had carried out his experiment and determined that the results were "virtually worthless." Philips also took the Q-Link "Ally" apart and found that it had been put together "in such a way as it could never, even vaguely, work."

What sets BioPro apart is that its business model is not too different from a pyramid scheme, or to use a more genteel term, it's a multilevel marketing company. You too can get in on the scam and make money by becoming a BioPro Independent Consultant and selling these worthless gadgets and recruiting others to do so too.

Don Bauder provides an inside look at how such companies work in a recent article for the San Diego Reader. One take-home lesson is that BioPro and its latest incarnation, Gia Wellness, look for any possible way to make you part with your money. There is nothing special about preying on people's fears of EMFs.

Gia Wellness also sells "inspired nutrition" products. The most amazing (and appalling) of these is the Gia Smart Card. It looks very much like a credit card, but, apparently, has some very special properties: It "is designed to transfer its vital energy onto any food or beverage you consume, to release its natural energetic potential," according to Gia.

Now that BioPro has lost whatever cachet it once had, Gia is marketing another cell phone protection device, the Cell Guard. You can buy a pack of four for $147.50. Cell Guard looks a lot like BioPro and there is every reason to believe that it is just as effective.

For a time, the most notable proponent of BioPro Technology was George Carlo, the sometime epidemiologist, lawyer and entrepreneur. They formed a "Strategic Alliance" about five years ago. In a video archived on YouTube, Carlo describes this alliance as a way to fulfill his "moral and ethical obligation to get [BioPro] in the hands of thousands and thousands of people as soon as [possible]." In 2008, however, the relationship soured and Carlo confessed that BioPro is nothing but quackery.

This was one of "my most regrettable professional mistakes," he said. That's saying quite a lot given that in the 1990s he ran a $25 million scam, known as Wireless Technology Research (WTR) on behalf of the cell phone industry trade group, CTIA. Carlo and CTIA had promised a research program on the health effects of cell phone radiation but delivered practically nothing, except to show, yet again, that H.L. Mencken knew what he was talking about.

Prof. Lai's research is heavy into cancer.

I received this from the Stop Smart Meters organization:

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) today issued a position
paper on Electromagnetic and Radiofrequency Field Effect on Human Health,
including wireless technologies and smart meters.

Todays report on electromagnetic fields takes a strong stand that society
must acknowledge the biological effects of electromagnetic fields, educate the
population about the risks from wireless technologies, and [...]

Dear Friends,

We have some exciting and potentially powerful allies in the fray to get smart meters stopped or having the ability to opt out!

Please keep at it--if we don't persist, we can't possibly prevail.

Hacking Expert David Chalk Joins Urgent Call to Halt Smart Grid

"100% certainty of catastrophic failure of energy grid within 3 years"

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Apr 12, 2012 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

The vulnerability of the energy industry's new wireless smart grid will inevitably lead to lights out for everyone, according to leading cyber expert David Chalk. In an online interview for an upcoming documentary film entitled 'Take Back Your Power' ( www.ThePowerFilm.org ), Chalk says the entire power grid will be at risk to being taken down by cyber attack, and if installations continue it's only a matter of time.

We're in a state of crisis, said Chalk. The front door is open and there is no lock to be had. There is not a power meter or device on the grid that is protected from hacking - if not already infected - with some sort of trojan horse that can cause the grid to be shut down or completely annihilated.

One of the most amazing things that has happened to mankind in the last 100 years is the Internet. It's given us possibility beyond our wildest imagination. But we also know the vulnerabilities that exist inside of it. And then we have the backbone, the power grid that powers our nations. Those two are coming together. And it's the smart meter on your home or business that's now allowing that connectivity.

Chalk also issued a challenge to governments, media and technology producers to show him one piece of digital technology that is hack-proof.
The computer companies that are involved, the manufacturers that are involved, bring forward a technology and I will show you that it's penetrable, said Chalk. I'll do it on national TV, I'll do it anywhere. But I can guarantee you 100% that there is nothing out there today -- nothing -- that can't be penetrated.

Chalk's strong words come amidst increasing reports of the smart grid's fatal insecurities, even from the governments and energy companies who are forcing their hand with the smart program. Every endpoint [meter] is a new potential threat vector, according to Doug Powell, manager, SMI Security, Privacy & Safety, for Canadian utility BC Hydro.

And in an interview with EnergyNow.com, former CIA Director James Woolsey was also highly critical of energy policy makers, whose plans received multi-billion dollar funding as part of the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. The so-called 'smart grid' that is as vulnerable as what we've got now is not smart at all, said Woolsey. It's a really, really stupid grid.

But there's more. In an audit released in January, the US Inspector General Gregory Friedman was also highly critical. Without a formal risk assessment and associated mitigation strategy, threats and weaknesses may go unidentified and expose the ... systems to an unacceptable level of risk, Friedman wrote.

Energy officials knew of these weaknesses but approved plans for the projects anyway, auditors said. The initial weaknesses had not always been fully addressed, and did not include a number of security practices commonly recommended for federal government and industry systems.

And security is not the only technologically-based obstacle faced by smart grid proponents. In March, alarm bells were rung following current CIA Director David Patraeus' confirmation that governments will use wireless smart appliances to spy on citizens. Items of interest will be located, identified, monitored, and remotely controlled through technologies such as radio-frequency identification, sensor networks, tiny embedded servers, and energy harvesters, Patraeus said at a meeting of In-Q-Tel, the CIA's venture capital firm. He added that this will prompt a rethink of our notions of identity and secrecy.

With strong criticism to the smart grid now coming from many directions, energy corporations and governments now have the challenge to explain to an increasingly unapproving public why they continue to fast-track smart grid installations.
Citizen groups and organizations throughout the US, Canada and Europe have launched legal actions to stop the installation of smart meters.

They cite issues such as cost increases, health risks, privacy concerns, grid vulnerability and the lack of democratic process. In Chalk's home province of British Columbia, Citizens for Safe Technology ( www.citizensforsafetechnology.org ) and the BC Coalition to Stop Smart Meters are leading a growing challenge.

Options for opting out of the smart metering program have been announced in markets including California, Maine, Vermont, Louisiana, Michigan, Connecticut, Quebec, the UK and the Netherlands. In the US, several regions including the counties of Santa Cruz and Marin are enforcing outright moratoriums.

Unless we wake up and realize what we're doing, there is 100% certainty of total catastrophic failure of the entire power infrastructure within 3 years, said Chalk. This could actually be worse than a nuclear war, because it would happen everywhere. How governments and utilities are blindly merging the power grid with the Internet, and effectively without any protection, is insanity at its finest.

The full video interview with David Chalk can be seen on www.thepowerfilm.org . The feature film documentary 'Take Back Your Power', which critically examines the smart grid program, will be released online this spring.

Pretty long but please read!!

Anyone with a homeowners insurance policy or renters policy might want to check in with your insurance company.

I have read over and over again that these devices are not UL approved and if a fire starts due to a non UL approved device, you might be out of luck. Another reason to make noise about this.

I just read this on a news site - Chattanoogan.com
**************

There is a lot you can and must do to stop smart meters. First of all, call your utility company and refuse, refuse, refuse to have one installed on your residence or property.

Your utility may tell you that smart meters are mandated by the federal government but in fact, they are not.

According to the Energy Policy Act of 2005, the utilities may offer them and install them upon customer request but not force them on you are theyre already doing.

Inform your utility in writing of your refusal for health and privacy concerns. Put a weather-proofed do not install smart meter sign next to your mechanical meter.

Become educated and aware of smart meters.

(PSSmart meters are not UL approved which are required of other appliances. This is because the federal government has waived that requirement for the utilities.)

**********

Same article says:

Smart meters may be smart but they are not private. Once a smart meter is attached to a home, it can tell how many people live in the house, when they get up, when they go to bed and when they arent home.

It can tell how many showers they take and loads of laundry they do, how often they use the microwave and how much and what kind of TV they watch.

The information gathered from your house is sent to a neighborhood smart meter which then wirelessly transmits your information to a municipal network and to the national network which is the Smart Grid.

Privacy and cybersecurity are among the greatest challenges in implementing the smart grid, said Nick Sinai, energy and environment director at the FCC.

Eventually the utilities will control how much energy you use and when and be able to shut off smart chip-equipped appliances remotely.

***********

Over a year ago I started tracking what was happening in Maine regarding smart meters.

There were a number of groups who were fighting this tooth and nail for health, safety and privacy concerns.

It is because of that I started watching the mail for the letter to come giving me "right" to opt out. That is just so backwards!!

The fact that I don't have one on my house really boils down to a matter of principle. Fortunately most of my neighbors are trees but if people around the corner have them..... and they do.

I believe I was first tipped off to the whole smart meter thing from an old post on this site so word has been around.

I have brought up the Dr. Magda Havas site several times. One of the first thing you will find there is "Smart Meters: Freidman vs
Maine Public Utilities Commission and Central Maine Power Company."

I read the lengthy court documents and following is included:

A Review of Health Effects and Introduction of New Evidence

Research into health effects of low level electromagnetic and RF
radiation has been going on over seventy years.

In 1971, the Navy Medical Research Institute published a bibliography of over 2,000 studies finding biological health effects from microwave and RF radiation going back to the 1930s. [6]

Effects were broken down into the following broad categories, noting as well for each, the number of sub categories (in parentheses) also described and distinguished:5

1. Heating of organs (8)
2. Changes in physiologic function (29)
3. Central nervous system effects (9)

4. Autonomic nervous system effects (4)
5. Peripheral nervous system effects (1)
6. Psychological disorders-Human behavioral studies (17)

7. Behavioral Changes-Animal studies (1)
8. Blood disorders (12)
9. Vascular disorders (2)

10. Enzyme and other biochemical changes (13)
11. Metabolic disorders (4)
12. Gastro-intestinal disorders (4)

13. Histological changes (2)
14. Genetic and chromosomal changes (5)
15. Pearl chain effect and orientation of cellular and other
particles (1)

16. Miscellaneous effects (10)

It is precisely because of this large spectrum of effects, the military is creating weapons using RF/microwave frequencies.

*****end of quote*****

Even if you already have a smart meter, please sign every petition you can find (there are plenty), write to your utility provider, write to your City, State and Federal Officials.

We can turn a blind eye to many things, but I do not think this is one of them.

it seems the whole big brother thing would upset many of my fellow new hampshireites...i may do a letter to the editor or something and hope someone else picks up the cause.

i have been getting sick in my camper when i stay more than 2-3 days. i just found out there is a smart meter about 6 ft from my head when i sleep

thank you for the above resources...maybe they will help everyone fight them

Interesting.... I'm going to take a look at the cyber security guy's movie later. He presents some good points. It makes one wonder where all this money came from to fast track all of this... like billions. Especially, in a time of such a lackluster economy.

Sometimes, I'm glad I live in the "Soprano" state (if you know what I mean). No offense to anyone. I love the diversity here.

Hey Santa Cruz! I just found this from November 1,2011. I've put in some of the quotes from the article too.
http://stopsmartmeters.org/2011/11/01/pge-begins-removing-smart-meters-due-to-health-effects/
November 1, 2011

Just as PG&E enters the final phase of its deployment of wireless smart meters in California, the largest of the states Investor Owned Utilities (IOUs) has reversed course, quietly beginning to replace the smart meters of those reporting health impacts with the old trusty analog version.

Promises ranging from lower utility bills to enhanced renewable generation capacity have failed to materialize, with widespread reports of higher bills, privacy violations, fires and explosions, and commonly reported health impacts such as headaches, nausea, tinnitus, and heart problems associated with powerful wireless transmissions.

In California, more than 47 cities and counties have demanded a halt to installation, and a dozen local governments have passed laws prohibiting the controversial technology. [2]

Opt out no matter the price. I had to pay $40 to NOT have one and an additional $14 a month. Doesn't seem right.

If you can get your neighbors on board, do, because if everyone else has one you don't have much protection.

I have been reading something this morning that anything that transmits the type of information that smart meters do, are considered a surveillance device and that it is illegal to install such a device without consent.

Any law experts out there?

I think the problem that renters face (or folks like Silver and I who are in a lease option) is that the building is owned by someone else and even though the power bill is in our name, if the owner of the property gave permission, it would seem we are left in the cold.

Also, as stated above, when you are surrounded by meters it does not do much good to get just yours removed. Unless some sort of class action suit is filed, with accompanying medical/scientific proof, the power companies hold all of the cards.

On the other hand, what about erecting a Faraday Cage around the meters? Of course that would impede information gathering.

Another question I have is that as long as we had analogue meters we were charged a "maintenance" charge because someone had to come out and read the meter, right? Well, if we have this new meter that does not require a worker to come out and read why am I still paying a maintenance charge?!?!?!?!?

I think I'll make a call to Idaho Power tomorrow. If I were you, I would check my electric bill and find out if there is still a maintenance charge even though no one comes to read the meter.

How many internet signals do you have going through your house at one time (from neighbors and such) in addition to your own? My computer is picking up WiFi from 11, sometimes 12, different networks. That seems like a lot. I don't even live in an apartment complex (I imagine those are worse?).
