Iam just wondering what digestive enzymes you all take and really im wondering what does a digestive enzyme help with?

Ive read there are different enzymes that break down certain things like proteins/fats etc but is there one digestive enzyme supplement you can take that has them all? I dont really want to take 4 different pills to break down different things.

Anyway..what one do you take?

I take: Now Brand "Digest Platinum".

http://www.iherb.com/Now-Foods-Digest-Platinum-120-Vcaps/21321

This is by far my most favorite digestive enzyme. I've tried so many brands over the years and none have worked nearly as well as this. It is exactly what I was looking for.

It is actually half the price of another similar digestive enzyme Enzymedica "Digest Gold". If you compare the ingredients they are almost just alike:

http://www.iherb.com/Enzymedica-Digest-Gold-Premium-Enzyme-Formula-240-Capsules/16790

You will probably have to try at least a few different enzyme supplement blends to see what helps you feel better. I know that others will come along and share what works for them.

Take care [Smile]

Sammy... Swanson's will save you even more money on the Digest Platinum...

http://www.swansonvitamins.com/q?kw=NOW+digest+platinum&x=15&y=8

Also check faithful's post about a cheaper source of supplements.

I bought the Digest Gold at Vitacost.. cheaper than iherb too.

Some people take them for the SUPOSED purpose of destroying biofilm that encases different pathogens causing infections- like lyme. I honestly do not know if they get better doing this . I just started serra peptase ( read reviews at iherb ) . It is supposed to break down biofilm and also : clean arteries, clean out scar tissue, clean bllod of excess fibrin and proteins that cause inflammation, which also causes many diseases . The reviews on serra peptase and nattokinase are honestly staggering with the kind of results reported .
I have take bromelain a lot as it helps with inflammation and with platelet clumping . I tolerate it well .

I just started serra peptase and am almost flat on my back with one capsule! I took 2 to start with and had to go to bed and was sick as a dog . Now I only take a half capsule a day .
I find the die off for me SHOCKING and wish others would share if they found it rough .

I have to really question that there is indeed biofilm and that when I take the enzyme , the lyme is no longer protected . I can not overstate how strong the effect is of a half capsule and the resulting herx !

I think serra is well worth the money even for those without lyme when you read the reviews at iherb or amazon . It is strong !

Serrapeptidase is not a digestive enzyme - it is a systemically active enzyme that does other things for us (break down scar tissue & biofilm, prevent platelet clumping/blood clotting, etc.).

Digestive enzymes help our body to be able to absorb and use the food we eat -- fats, proteins, carbohydrates/sugars, plant fiber, etc.

Lipase - digests fats

Amylase - digests starches & carbohydrates

Proteases (there are many) - digest proteins

Cellulase - digests plant fibers

Lactase - specifically digests milk sugar

Bromelain (from pineapple) - digests proteins when taken with food; works as an anti-inflammatory when taken between meals

Papain (from papaya) - digests proteins

HCl - helps break proteins apart in preparation for protease activity in the small intestine

Ox Bile - helps with fat digestion

Pancreatin - supports the pancreas' enzyme production [not recommended if you have pancreatitis]

Herbal bitters (dandelion, etc.) - stimulates bile production by the liver [may cause pain/discomfort if have gallbladder problems]

I personally use Country Life brand MaxiZyme. This is a comprehensive enzyme formula, but does not contain animal-derivatives such as ox bile, nor does it contain herbs or HCl (I have trouble with HCl and animal-derived glandular extracts).

I was taking Acid Soothe (herbs + carb. & fat digestive enzymes; safe for people with stomach ulcers) for a while in addition to the MaxiZyme, for additional carbohydrate digestion support, but had to stop because of sulfite reactivity to the Acid Soothe (not sure why...maybe due to the reformulation of this product, in which they added zinc carnosine)...

Anyway, there are a number of great products out there...just have to get one that seems to contain the ingredients for which you are looking, and try it.

Vegetarian formulas like the one I take should be taken before or during the meal, or can be taken anytime one feels indigestion/reflux symptoms.

Animal derived enzyme products can be taken during or immediately after the meal (do not take on an empty stomach, as the HCl or other ingredients may be too strong and may irritate the lining of the stomach if there is no food to buffer the irritation).

The digestive enzyme I like is
Trienza from Houston enzymes.

It covers enzymes to help digest
fats, carbohydrates, phenols, fruits, gluten, casein/dairy
(I am 100% gluten free)

It's not cheap, tho. I tried to buy a less expensive brand, and after a week, they started to smell rancid, so I've stuck with Trienza.

annxyz... are you on abx?? Things like Serrapeptase will help the abx go deeper into your tissues, thereby potentiating the abx.

It's great stuff!

No , I did 3 years of ABX with little benefit . I am doing herbs and rife and made more progress with them.

The serra peptase causes a herx for me that almost takes my breath away - very severe. I can barely stand up if I take a whole capsule beacuse of extreme chills and sore lymph nodes , like I felt years ago when I took my first unforgettable doxy pill. I guess I am just blown away that the serra must REALLY be destroying biofilm . Nothing else can explain it . Other enzymes like bromelain made little difference with herxing . It almost feels like serra peptase is a strong antibiotic , but am sure it is just making the spirochete visible to my white killer cells .
TUTU , I had no stomach problem at all with it either . I wonder if it would help your foot pain . It has helped a lot of people with pain.
