I have intermittent blurred vision, usually involves both eyes and will last for the entire day. Is this lyme related?! It used to be very infrequent, but now it's happening 2-3 days a week. The other days, I have perfect 20/20 vision. Once I wake up with it, I have to deal with it the entire day and hope the next day it's one of my "good" days.

Any thoughts? Ways of making it stop? I don't have insurance to get to the eye doctor.

I get this too. I wish I could say that I know what causes it, but I don't. I have seen an eye doctor as well as a specialist (since the first ophthalmologist couldn't work out what was going on) and the specialist couldn't enlighten me, either.

Good luck with finding an answer! I just wanted to let you know that someone else out there is having a similar problem.

Thank you Splashi [Smile] . Reading that anti-inflammatory herbs may help so going to hit the Turmeric hard and see if it clears it up. I know it seemed to help my joint pain (which has increased too), so perhaps the inflammation is behind it all?! Not sure but going to experiment and see if it improves. So frustrating, as I'm sure you know :/

We're all different when it comes to what works - I can stop all Lyme inflammatory eye symptoms, including blurry vision, by drinking mangosteen juice, an anti-inflammatory juice found in health stores and online. i like the Mango-Xan version as it's the most tart.

I take turmeric too. For me, that works for joints and muscles, not eyes.

Maybe this is a complete coincidence but I took 800 mg of turmeric about 1 1/2 - 2 hours ago and my vision is about 95% back to normal. Never in the years that I've had vision issues did it EVER clear up same day. Like I mentioned in my last post, I'd always have to wait til the next day to see if it was better.

I had turmeric in my cabinet but forgot about it and haven't haven it consistently in a very long time. Going to keep experimenting but I have to say, this is crazy.

Inflammation is a big one for me.

Also treating bartonella (even though have sinced relapsed), changed my eyes so much, I needed a different prescription. In the good direction. [Smile]

Sometimes an ice gel pack around my head helps the brain inflammation and makes the eyesight less blurry.

Robin focuses on inflammation (yes, mangosteen is excellent in so many ways) and Greta and I just add to inflammation as being the main factor.

It's not crazy, actually. Makes perfect sense that the turmeric cleared it up and that seems to point to

INFLAMMATION as the cause (very common with lyme).

Turmeric helps decrease inflammation, helps support the liver in moving out "trash" (an antioxidant) from the body so CIRCULATION is enhanced. It also helps support the blood vessel integrity. All issues that are stressed with lyme.

Turmeric and other ANTIOXIDANTS are key to eye health. Antioxidants help decrease inflammation with their multiple actions.

Berberine does the same thing for me. Magnesium also very important.

Also remember to rest your eyes often. And seek out: YOGA FOR THE EYES

Crazy in a GOOD way because I didn't expect it to work that fast! But it does seem to work quickly on joint pain (usually take a day or so to kick in), so makes sense I guess

Thanks Keebler, will check it out the info you posted.

When I started taking Berberine, my distance glasses no longer worked. At first, setting down to watch TV, I was annoyed. No way can I even go to an eye doctor, or afford one (not covered for eyes) . . . or afford new glasses.

But, over the span of a couple days, it become clear that my vision was not getting worse. I could not use my distance glasses for TV because --- my vision was getting better.

Within a couple weeks, I could see just great with no glasses, even reading subtitles on foreign films. I'd worn distance glasses for TV for well over 20 years. It's been at least a full year now, no glasses.

Now, mine was not the strongest eyeglass prescription, I could usually make out the faces or places on TV but they were a strain. Print on TV was a big blur. No more.

Same with my prescription sunglass for when in a car. They don't work anymore. I probably couldn't read street signs but most road signs are okay. I do not drive, though (other reasons) or I might want some kind of corrective lens were I to drive.

Reading glasses still required after about a minute or for many things on a printed page, however. That's okay.

Is Berberine the same as Oregon Grape?

Sort of. Oregon Grape contains berberine as part of the plant composition. So does Goldenseal, Coptis, etc.

Berberine can be separated out. The Berberine I get is "extracted" from Barberry, similar to those listed above.

That's awesome, Rachelle, that the turmeric works for you! You've found something that will work - congrats -

The mangosteen juice also worked for me immediately too - all eye symptoms gone in 24 hours. Just goes to show how inflamed we are and in need of anti-inflams.

You may have Chronic Dry Eye. I have that and it causes blurred vision among other things. Some days are worse than others. Try Systane preservative-free saline drops 4-5 times per day and see if that helps. Available at pharmacies, Walmart, Sam'setc. With Chronic Dty Eye, the tears you produce do not properly lubricate your eyes, so in an attempt to lubricate, the eyes may make excess tears, at other timrs the eyes will feel dry, gritty, perhaps like there
is a foreign body in the eye. The Systane drops do a pretty good job of helping symptomatic ally. Good luck!

Certain Rx can cause blurred vision, too, especially pain meds and sleep aids. Some sleep meds are notorious for causing dry mouth, and dry eyes, too. Check the manufacturer's site for any Rx you take and see the fine print.
