I was diagnosed Igenix & CDC positive for Lyme just a couple months ago after being sick with many problems for about a year.
One of the "weirdest" symptoms that I've had since the very beginning is terrible belching (along with nausea and tons of other symptoms).
I'm not looking for ideas on what this could be, just looking to see if anyone else has experienced this disgusting and annoying symptoms with their Lyme or co-infections.
I've spoken with a couple people who had this as well and said after treating Bart, it went away.
My LLMD says he has also seen this in previous patients as well. I just don't hear a lot about it, and would LOVE to hear from others who have experienced this same thing.

- Just had to say that. Now, seriously, there are many things that come to mind that could help. But I just ran out of steam.
DGL is just one of those, a modified licorice. -

I have had the terrible belching symptoms for over a year now too. And it will come up (no pun intended) when I haven't eaten for a while and when I have eaten recently.
I can't find a trigger for it. I have gone gluten free... no dairy.... drink only water... no meat.... still have the same issues.

I have it too. Even when i wake up in the morning and i havent eaten anything yet.
Like you i also have nausea.
No diet has ever changed this symptom for me. I think for me its related to bart and less likely to borrelia.

I have. Started burping quite a bit recently, in a different way from ever before. It is not a satisfying, vulgar belch, but seems to be related to the bile reflux and SIBO symptoms..

I feel for you, Brinkley. When I first got sick, I burped and belched non-stop (literally!) for at least 8 months ... It was so, so exhausting!
This is what happened: I got a (non-stop) cough that lasted for about 4 months; then the cough stopped and the belching started - along with non-stop and very severe stomach burning.
All of these symptoms tortured me for almost a year. They are gone now. I'm thinking they are Bartonella-related ...

I would have thought this was yeast as the cause. If you don't want to know the cause, how are you going to fix the problem?

Poppy & Lymetoo, I had once considered yeast, but I have zero other symptoms of yeast. I also just began antibiotics the other month, and the belching started a year ago, so it wouldn't be antibiotics causing yeast.
My LLMD also says this is Lyme/Co-infection related attacking the gut, and I just wanted to see who else had experienced this so that I wasn't feeling so alone.

Winesnob81, sorry you are dealing with the same symptom. Annoying huh? Did this begin for you when you started becoming sick with Lyme?
Nula & S13, I'd love to pick your brain a little bit since we both share in this exhausting symptom!! Can I PM you?

Yes, the belching started when I became infected. I did not get diagnosed for 2 years and have only been on treatment since March.
The belching has been consistent since I was infected over 2 years ago, long before I was taking any antibiotics.

I had lyme & co's for 4-1/2 years before the belching started.
I also have pain in the liver/gallbladder area and thought it could be related to the gallbladder.
Hmmm...could be related to bart.

Marnie -- Yes, of course I have had an abdominal CT scan and every other test in the world you could think of! Probably just like most people who have Lyme (everything comes back normal until they finally test you for Lyme).
Trust me, for this specific symptom, I spent a year trying to figure out what it was. I finally was tested for Lyme (positive), got a good LLMD, and now he attributes the symptom to Lyme and other infections.
So, like I was saying, was just looking for people who shared in that experience
RZR, thanks for your response! I have definitely heard several other people attribute this to their Bart infection.
Winesnob, you and I seem pretty similar in how the belching started. For me it also began at the onset of me being sick. Within a few weeks I developed that and TONS of other symptoms all at once. So crazy. What did your doctor say about it?
Crazy the things Lyme can make your body do.

I had it too. Bartonella or H Pylori. For me, it quickly went away with Levaquin.

lymeinhell, that's great it went away once you started the Levaquin. Did the belching just appear almost out of nowhere for you and very excessively?

Yes, along with horrible acid reflux and diarrhea. While searching for a diagnosis, a walkin clinic put me on Levaquin for what they thought was an inner ear infection. My sinuses were a mess, but I no longer needed Zantac for the first time in 10 YEARS.

So you ONLY wanted to know if others burb a lot
and
subsequently you were interested in which pathogen they/their doctors may attribute that symptom to?
Not how to address/treat that symptom, that pathogen?
You do know that Bb (alone!) can infect and impact the "gut" (specifically invade the endothelial cells that line the gut), right?
Which is why Rx. Tritec was used (years ago) to rid ALL FORMS OF Bb (in the gut ONLY!). Unfortunately it didn't work elsewhere.
Here is a comprehensive list of lyme symptoms so you won't be surprised if one pops up:
Click on Gastroesophageal reflux disease. See "wet burps"?
Have you TESTED positive for Bartonella and/or other co-infections - babesia, etc.?
There is a "Bartonella ePCR™ test? (NC lab.)
It is important you have *confirmation of* co-infections...which ones....
in order to develop the best plan of attack i.e., hit the KNOWN pathogens present -
very targeted therapy = fewer side effects
and less potential damage to healthy cells.
Normally bartonella infections resolve on their own UNLESS someone's immune system has been compromised.
Do you have pets...cats (scratch) and dogs (fleas)? They up the RISK of bartonella.
You might want to request copies of all your lab reports as well as any scan/MRI reports and go over the results yourself too. Learn what they mean.
Assemble a book. Also start a diary in that book of what Rx/supplements were added when, how much, for how long you took them and any other therapies you may try - with notes as to whether they were effective or not for YOU.
The fast onset of MANY symptoms - major reaction to Bb - might involve its OspCa. Which is different from "just" OspC (outer surface protein C).
Given your location, any chance you were in Southern Wisconsin and got lyme there?
Walworth county keeps count of Bb infected ticks. The level recently was 80% infected!
During my sister's course of abx.(s) -3 years non-stop including the "big guns" (IV Rocephin) et al...
she was given Mepron with Azith "just in case" she had babesia (no symptoms).
That likely was not a good idea. Bb likely just dove for cover...prolonging the disease.
And she was given Humira to reduce TNFalpha (inflammation) WITHOUT FIRST CHECKING FOR TB.
THAT could have been disastrous.
Yes, Humira helped for a year, but didn't stop the joint destruction, etc.
She is now "autoimmune" Likely because of RST1 strain:
I think it is fair for you to ask your LLMD how many patients he/she has been able to cure of lyme disease (after they have had lyme go undiagnosed for 1 year) and how long it took them to get well.
Has he/she ordered genetic testing? This is important since certain "gene types" have a harder time clearing certain infections.
Take a deep breath. This is a very complex pathogen and becoming as knowledgeable about it as fast as possible is important to the healing process...of which YOU are a part.
Healing involves THREE persons, God, YOU, and your doctor. In that order.
Keep a very open mind. There is more than one path to healing.
But it IS possible.
When you need emotional support, when you are feeling alone and think you are the only one with a particular symptom, "General" is the location to click on.
However if you have a symptom and want to find out the cause(s) and what to do about that symptom, then "medical" is the best place to post.
Up in the top right hand corner of this website there is a "search" line. You could, for example, hit "search" and then in the "search word" box, type in the word, "burping", chose an area (medical, general) and how far back and then hit "find". The search engine within lymenet would bring up all the past posts about burping.
P.S. Levofloxacin inhibits the enzyme bacterial DNA gyrase and
***prevents replication of bacterial DNA
during bacterial growth and reproduction.***
My concern is Bb would simply dive for cover - wait it out. Bb is extremely adept at adapting to hostile environments.
