I'm not an avid reader of celebrity news but I like to keep informed...
I thought this was pretty big news since she's such a major celebrity.
-from the article:
The exact cause of Bell's palsy is unknown, but doctors have a theory.
"Once other potential causes of facial paralysis are excluded, including tumor, Lyme disease, and shingles, the specific cause of Bell palsy is usually not identified," said David Simpson, M.D., director of the Neuromuscular Division in the Department of Neurology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
"The major prevailing theory concerning the cause of Bell palsy is that it is an immune reaction of the facial nerve in response to a viral infection."

- She's been working with philanthropic missions for many years, long before becoming a UN advocate, though.
Our very back yards can also pose risks. Bell's Palsy is one of the major & classic warning signs that lyme is on board.
Other infections might be involved but, really, lyme should be the first thought to assess. It's mentioned in the excerpt there yet many who may see that don't know about the testing / diagnostic hurdles.
I hope whatever is going on that it will resolve.
About six months ago one of our city commissioners had Bell's Palsy but it seems that within a short time, he recovered. I'd been following his posting in the city web pages and he sure appeared to be back up to speed.
It's nice that Jolie's not just "such a major celebrity" but also works with the UN as an volunteer ambassador of sorts in an important human services role. It's so good to see people step up to the plate like this.
After years of dedicated service to UNHCR and the cause of refugees, Angelina Jolie was appointed Special Envoy in April 2012.
In her expanded role, Jolie focuses on major crises that result in mass population displacements, undertaking advocacy and representing UNHCR and the High Commissioner at the diplomatic level.
She also engages with decision-makers on global displacement issues. Through this work, she has helped contribute to the vital process of finding solutions for people forced to flee their homes. -

She's a member of the CFR. Not sure I trust them... You can look into it for yourself & make up your own mind about it.
I'm sorry she is going through medical issues but I don't know why this issue about her Bell's Palsey is headline news. I'd say it's a good opportunity to have a public discussion about Lyme Disease.
The more awareness the better. If one person doesn't get Lyme because they came across something like this news story - that's a good thing in my mind.
Interesting she chose acupuncture to treat it. It would be nice if we all could afford to choose alternative treatments for our ailments if we wanted to.

Yes, that's my thought. Seems this story has come & gone. There's usually no follow-up. Just like the Yolanda Hadid story about Lyme...
I'm not into celebrity gossip but this woman's story could be the story of any of us. Fortunately, she has money to handle the financial devastation this illness brings. Not to mention the emotional grief...

PS - If you look at this link about Yolanda Hadid - the real eye opener is the comments section...! People just saying she is a stupid celebrity and she is faking it all...
I never watched the tv show. I didn't even know who she was. If most "average" people think this about a celebrity - how do you think most people feel about their neighbor who has Lyme or their own family member?
