I've been thinking about songs that lift me up, give me hope or allow me to "stand firm" against Lyme.
Sometimes it is just part of a song.
I like a variety of music from classical to heavy rock.
However, there are a couple that I play over and over again.
Included a couple of lyrics from one by Foreigner called "That was Yesterday"
That was yesterday
I had the World in my Hands
But it's not the end of my world
Just a slight change of plans
That was yesterday
But today life goes on
No more hiding in yesterday
'Cause yesterday's gone
Good bye yesterday
Now it's over and done
Still I hope somewhere deep in your heart
Yesterday will live on........
I also listen to Queen sing "We are the Champions".
I think it is a tribute to all of us who struggle.
Sometimes I look at a title of a song like "Double Vision" and laugh thinking of myself.
Do any of you have any songs or lyrics that help you cope?
Care to share with me?
Hugs,
Geneal

I've posted this one numerous times. There are others this is just what came to mind first.
As Bad As It Gets 1997 Christine Lavin
This is the darkest hour of your longest night you've never been this powerless or prayed this hard for light wish there was something I could do to pull you through but the only who can handle this now is you
This is as bad as it gets if you can make it through this I'm willing to bet that you will make it through anything the world will throw your way this is as low as you've ever been if you can reach deep down tap the power within I know that you will find the strength to make it through this day
This is the coldest night of your bleakest year it's hard to fight all the forces that have brought you here between the anger and pain amid the losses and gains there's a space if you can find it you will rise again
This is as bad as it gets if you can make it through this I'm willing to bet that you will make it through anything the world will throw your way this is as low as you'll ever be if you can stop for a minute and listen to me I know that you will find the strength to make it through this day
Nothing in your life has prepared you for such a troubled time but you're not one to give up or give in when your life is on the line
This is as bad as it gets if you can make it through this I'm willing to bet that you will make it through anything the world will throw your way this is as low as she goes if you can reach deep down tap the power that flows within you I know that you will find the strength to make it through this day and then I know you will be OK you'll be alright don't give up the fight

Title People Need The Lord Artist Steve Green
Song lyrics:
Everyday they pass me by, I can see it in their eye. Empty people filled with care, Headed who knows where?
On they go through private pain, Living fear to fear. Laughter hides their silent cries, Only Jesus hears.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord. At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door. People need the Lord, people need the Lord. When will we realize -- people need the Lord?
We are called to take His light To a world where wrong seems right. What would be too great a cost For sharing Life with one who's lost?
Through His love our hearts can feel All the grief they bear. They must hear the Words of Life Only we can share.
People need the Lord, people need the Lord At the end of broken dreams, He's the open door. People need the Lord, people need the Lord. When will we realize that we must give our lives, For people need the Lord. People need the Lord.
Part of this song is played every day on the 700 Club. [part of their "advertising"]
It's been a favorite of my husband's and mine for at least 12-14 yrs.

So many great songs! One of the fantastic things about lyme treatment is that after being really sick for the past couple of years, I can appreciate music again!
I love that song you mentioned Geneal, We are the Champions. What a voice Freddy Mercury had, and too bad he died of AIDS before the anti-retrovirals were around...
And Condor, if you love Sting's Fragile, which is a beautiful song, you have to listen to Jesse Cook's version of that song. It is gorgeous! Any Jesse Cook album is fantastic, and Fragile is the last song on his Vertigo CD, highly recommended.

Wow. You guys have some awesome suggestions.
I seriously need to update my "motivational" music!
I know that it is a Christmas song, but the song
Mary Did You Know? is one of my all time favorites.
It reminds me that miracles can and still happen every day.

Geneal, there's a show here where that song is performed twice a day, 6 days a week, no matter the season! Awesome performance with video included on a huge screen.

Bring on the Rain
Another day has almost come and gone I cannot imagine what else could go wrong Sometimes I would like to hide away somewhere and lock the door
A simple battle may be lost, but not the war Tomorrow is another day, I'm thirsty anyway, so bring on the rain
Almost like the hard times circle round, I might feel defeated, I might hang my head, I may be barely breathing, but I'm not dead
I'm not going to let it get me down, tomorrow is another day and I'm not afraid

It used to be Brenda Weiler's 'The Weather I'm In'.
Now I think it is Avril Lavigne's 'Losing Grip', and I don't even like Avril. Somehow though it kind of fits what happened to me.

To the tune of BIKO by Peter Gabriel-
"RICO"
September '05 Yale University weather fine It was business as usual In research room 619 Oh Rico, Rico, because Rico Oh Rico, Rico, because Rico -The lie is dead
When I try to sleep at night I can only dream in red The outside world is black and white With only one colour dead (whisper-"Lyme green") Oh Rico, Rico, because Rico Oh Rico, Rico, because Rico -The lie is dead
You can blow out a candle But you can't blow out a fire Once the flames begin to catch The wind will blow it higher Oh Rico, Rico, because Rico -The lie is dead
And the eyes of the world are watching now watching now

Better Than Ezra has a l song called Daylight, and the whole song is good but my favorite line is:
In the darkest hours of the night, you find Daylight...
Late at night is the only time I feel good so thats why I like it.
Also good are "Ive Seen Better Days" by Sublime, and "Heard The World" by OAR.

Being able to listen to music is one of those skills that have not returned yet for the most part.
Can't explain why. Don't understand it myself.

Stand by Donnie McClurkin album: Donnie McClurkin (1996) (What do you do) when you've done all you can And it seems like it's never enough And what do you say when your friends turn away And you're all alone Tell me what do you give when you've given your all And it seems like you can't make it through Well you just stand, when there's nothing left to do You just stand, watch the Lord see you through Yes after you've done all you can, you just stand
Tell me how do you handle the guilt of your past Tell me how do you deal with the shame And how can you smile while your heart has been broken And filled with pain filled with pain Tell me what do you give when you've given your all And it seems like you can't make it through Child you just stand when there's nothing left to do You just stand watch the Lord see you through Yes after you've done all you can, you just stand
(Stand) and be sure (and be sure) Be not entangled in that bondage again, you just stand (Stand) and endure (and endure) For God has a purpose yes God has a plan, tell me (What do you do) When you've done all you can And it seems like you can't make it through Child you just...stand (stand) you just stand (stand) stand (stand) Don't you dare give up (you just)
Through the storm (stand) Stand through the rain (stand) Through the hurt (stand) Yeah through the pain (you just)
Don't you bow (stand) and dont you bend (stand) Don't give up (stand) no dont give in (you just) Hold on (stand) , just be strong (stand) God will step in (stand), it won't be long no no no(you just)
After you've done all you can (after you've done all you can) After you've done all you can (after you've done all you can) After you've gone through the hurt (after you've done all you can) After you've gone through the pain oh my (after you've done all you can) After you've gone through the storm (after you've done all you can) After you've gone through the rain (after you've done all you can)
Prayed and cried x 4 After you've done all you can....you just ... Stand.

Dear Magic,
That was a good one. Unfortunately, I have vivid memories of the '80's.
Was in college during those years.....Puffed up bangs, gel shoes and all.
You rock Magic!!!!
We need a theme song. That is a good one.
Hugs,

Yesterday when my clock radio went off to wake me up at 6am, they were playing "Cat Scratch Fever".
Not exactly what I wanted to hear since just starting Rifampin.
I just put my head over my pillow until my kids came in my bedroom to ask for breakfast.

Dear Pineapple,
I am sorry, but I couldn't help but laugh at the "Cat Scratch Fever"/Bartonella combo.
Watch that rifampin. I had to take extra magnesium and extra diflucan while on it.
Probably one of the hardest meds on my system that I have taken thus far.
I like the idea of which songs describe you also.

This stuff would make a wonderful "lyme healing CD". I've enjoyed reading all the songs everyone is mentioning, so thought I would share mine.
I'm a huge Broadway Muscial fan and at the times that I didn't think I could take this illness anymore, I would find great inspiration in "To Dream the Impossible Dream" from Man of La Mancha. Hence my screen name TDTID.
To dream ... the impossible dream ... To fight ... the unbeatable foe ... To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ... To run ... where the brave dare not go ... To right ... the unrightable wrong ... To love ... pure and chaste from afar ... To try ... when your arms are too weary ... To reach ... the unreachable star ...
This is my quest, to follow that star ... No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ... To fight for the right, without question or pause ... To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...
And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest, That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm, when I'm laid to my rest ... And the world will be better for this: That one man, scorned and covered with scars, Still strove, with his last ounce of courage, To reach ... the unreachable star ...
Maybe we all be able to reach that Impossible Dream and dump this lyme.
Cathy
