Long article.. but looks interesting (?).. about Lyme in dogs and humans and other animals... by the University of Maryland, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

http://www.agnr.umd.edu/MCE/Publications/Publication.cfm?ID=107

Excerpt:

"Evidence for direct animal to animal transmission of the Lyme spirochete exists. Its significance as an avenue for infection remains to be determined. The Lyme disease agent has been isolated from urine and colostrum in dogs, cattle and mice, suggesting that these two fluids may be possible contagious routes of infection.

Transmission of the organism across the placenta to a developing fetus is another means for infection to occur. Animal owners do not appear to have a greater likelihood of contracting Lyme disease than non-animal owners just because their animals may be harboring the infective agent."

Hey Tincup,

Great article. You know I had to read this one because of my dog Rocky.

I treat him every month religiously with Frontline and a topical liquid when I find an attached tick.

Some I've pulled off with tweezers but I usually apply the instant tick killer and it falls off when dead.

I bought Cardinal Gold Medal Pets Ear Mite and Tick Control from Petsmart and it works great for Rocky. Kills those nasty buggers pretty quick.

Great post for us pet lovers! [Smile]

TC, what is your opinion on giving dogs the lyme vaccine? I think my dogs may have gotten it from the vaccine. It certainly didn't work because they both have it.

Oh great! I have a giant puppy peeing buckets in my house and I've been cleaning it up with scratched up dog bitten hands!

I've washed them of course, but come on already, now I need rubber gloves?

Oh TC,
