I have been on IV Rocephin for 7 weeks and my insurance is wanting to cut me off at the 8 week mark. They said I could be retested now to see if I was making "progress" I really think the retest is because they want to get a negative result so they can quit paying IV. I tried telling them I could see progress by my symptoms are less severe but they want it in a blood test. Isn't this a disease that is mostly diagnosed by symptoms? so that would mean if my symptoms are getting better I would be improving???

I called and spoke to my doctor today to make arrangements for the test. First he said at 7 weeks of treatment it won't do much good to do another test would be a waste of money and then he said that I need to be OFF of antibiotic's for 10 to 14 days to get an accurate WB test.

He doesn't want me to retest mainly because me being off of antibiotic's for 14 days right now would do more harm than good. He said that if I do the test while on antibiotic's it could mask the results. I kind of agree with him. I mean when I had my first test I wasn't on antibiotic's. I just have to convince my insurance of that!

I faxed a letter to the insurance this afternoon explaining to them about my doctor saying I needed to be off abx for 14 days before I get an accurate test and that I didn't think I could handle 14 days off of them. I pulse rocephin am off on weekends and this last weekend has been the first weekend that I haven't gotten worse and starting feeling like the fagtigue and all was coming back. I told them my health meant more to me than me going off of abx so I could get an accurate test for the insurance. They would probably love me to take one while on abx cause it would come back negative and they would have reason to deny coverage.

I told the insurance in the letter that my doctor was going by my symptoms on how the medication was working and that I was beginning to feel better but I wasn't well yet. He plans on retesting me at the 4 month mark or quicker if my symptom's get better. I also said if they need my doctor to write them a letter to that effect I could get him to.

Anyone with any suggestions on how to get the insurance to back off of the wanting to test? The insurance has set a date of October 26th is the last day of treatment so I need to get something started now so I can continue to get my medication next week.
Thanks,
Stacie
