Hi Gonzo,

I'm sorry you are having a hard time keeping weight on.

I wish we could do a transplant-the 20 lbs I've gained...and just transfer it to you

If you can eat 3000 calories a day, you should gain about a pound a week.

(depending on how active you are and how good your metabolism is)

If you had my metabolism, you could eat 500 calories a day and gain about a pound a week. (haha, hope that joke made you chuckle a bit)

Do you have any dietary restrictions?

Are you doing low carb?

The best thing I can think of is eat like a bear would. Protein. Salmon. Berries. Lots of veggies (maybe bears don't eat veggies?!) and FAT.

(if you don't have proto, of course)

Eat like you're trying to gain some weight to hibenate for the winter.

Adding some MCT oil (TBSP) to your protein shakes is a good way to get some fat and also MCT is good for the brain.

Do you find you're hungry? If you forget to eat often, maybe set a timer and have something to eat every 2 hours.

(some of my favorite snacks...obviously weight gainers, haha...homemade kale chips, a pickled egg or an avocado with salt)

And don't get over zealous with the MCT oil...it will give you a stomach ache if you eat too much at once. A TBSP is a good place to start.

Best wishes and eat like a bear! [Smile]

Greta

Greta your the best and funny too. The problem is I'm never hungry and hats feeling full.it takes an hour to eat a bowl of soup than I'm to tired to rave anything else I have maybe 400 Cal. A day. The timer might help if I have small meals through out the day. Thahks for the help. Dg

Is there anyone at home to help you? 400 calories is not going to cut it!

Can you stock up on healthy fat items- keep your house stocked- set the timer (great idea)

or start a schedule- like you have a med/ supplement schedule- write it down-

I get not wanting to cook. So have nuts, easy things, but you have to get eating -- you do--

Eat nuts, avocados, anything that is a healthy fat. Eat vegetables!!

Have you thought about taking an anti-depressant? Sometimes depression will make a person unable to eat.

Also.. have you been treated for babesia?? It can cause anorexia and loss of appetite.

Hope this helps!

gonzo, inflammation affects each of us differently.I have read that some inflammatory pathways can affect the hypothalamus and can cause anorexia. The hormones you need to help you identify hunger are absent. I know some of use here deal with this without knowing why. I, on the other hand, have a tendency to put on weight with an increase of my C-reactive protein. You might want to due a search for ghrelin and leptin and inflammation, especially chronic inflammation.

Sorry for your 'loss'...pun intended. [Smile] Besides a wholesome menu plan of protein, vegetables and fruit....how bout doing some smoothies.

Any personal allergies or restrictions would be your guide. Egg protein makes a great base...some great additions would be:
coconut milk, nuts, seeds, fruit (banana, berries etc,)the good fats (coconut oil, olive oil, cod liver oil, flax oil)...just to mention a few.

Not wanting to eat etc is another kettle of fish. You've gotten some good suggestions from the posters above.

I've been on both sides of the Lyme weight mystery. At one point I quickly lost over 30lbs that I did not need to lose. It was scary feeling powerless and watching myself waste away.

I decided that I had to be very mindful of what I ate and when, to make myself eat even if I didn't "feel like it" because food is fuel to help heal my body. I finally reached a steady healthy weight and was able to maintain it for quite a while.

Then I got much sicker this past winter and ended up gradually gaining 20lbs above my healthy weight. Lyme is cruel. I haven't figured out how to lose any of this weight yet as it is probably infection related inflammation.

But I will keep trying until I overcome this obstacle too.

Just wanted to share that with you because you can control your loss, it takes hard work but you can do it if you really want.
