I am still having a problem fighting off the yeast. I am taking abx but lots of supplements and probiotics. My tongue is furred and cracked down the middle. It has been this way for almost a year. Have tried nystatin, diflucan, hydrogen perioxide, tea tree oil. When it looks like something is working it comes back tomorrow as bad or worse.

I have heard that the yeast problems with Lyme are due to the abx. One of the first symptoms I noticed (before I learned enough on Lyme to seek an LLMDs opinion) was a cracked furred tongue with a pain at the tip. My tongue was like that before any abx treatment. Can Lyme itself cause the yeast problem? Or is it just the abx causing the yeast imbalance?

I don't think Lyme can cause yeast, but a weak immune system can result in a yeast overgrowth.

You have tried lots of different things, but for how long? You will herx when you kill yeast, so treatment should cause it to get worse before it gets better.

I'm assuming you've given up eating things with yeast in them too?

I have been doing tea tree oil for my tongue for about two months now. I tried diflucan for 4 days. Which I understand is a long time for diflucan. I have tried the nystatin rinse several times a day for a few weeks. I am tempted to try the bleech rinse I have read about.

Now I have not given up yeast entirely I have cut the yeast intake back along with sugars as well.

When it comes to yeast, like Lyme, Patience is a virtue.

When I had yeast problems, I was on 1 Diflucan a week for many months, along with topical treatments, supplements and a completely sugar free and very low carb diet.

If you took Diflucan for 4 days, then you probably wouldn't see any improvement. You would probably actually have the yeast seem to worsen, as it died off. And then because you stopped the regimen, it would just grow back.

If the yeast is systemic, meaning you actually have an infection throughout your system and not just your tongue, then topical treatments like rinses or tea tree oil will not kill the yeast alone.

You will probably need something that kills it systemically, like Diflucan or Nystatin pills. If you have had the problem for a year, then you may need much longer treatment...many months not days or weeks. You may also need a stricter diet regimen - no sugar not reduce sugar and very low carb in order to create an environment that keeps the yeast out once you kill it.

Acidophilous might help out.

It helps balance the amount of good bacteria in your body!

Good luck!
