If you are referring to tremors decreasing when drinking alcohol, my answer is 'Duh!'

Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. Hence the reduction in tremors.

However, alcohol is not considered to be such a great idea with lyme and with our medications...

Let me tell you, I had the absolute worst reaction to alcohol ever. And this is a first for me.

My husband took me out to dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse (our fav) for my birthday.

I got a glass of Pino Grigio.

I've never had a problem with alcohol as of yet.

Oh, my. I had a few sips and I was sick as a dog. Never experienced this before in my life. I felt like I was going to keel over, thought I was going to throw up, thought I was going to die. I felt so ill and so dizzy and so sick....

It will be awhile before I try alcohol again.

While alcohol may help tremors (I wouldn't know as this is one symptom i haven't had yet thank God) it made all of my other symptoms MUCH WORSE.

In fact, when i finally saw "exaggerated hangovers" on the list of symptoms a big lightbulb went on over my head. For the past 2 years I would have one drink and feel like i had drank the entire bottle. It really does a number on me. I haven't had a beer in 6 months! It's hard but it is worth it to not have a hangover that lasts 4 days!

Prior to my getting worse with my lyme disease I drank frequently enough to know the difference between a regular hangover and a now lyme hangover...quite a difference.
I thought the bar I went to was substituting an inferior booze or something cuz I always drank the same thing. NOT,

As far as getting so violently ill from alcohol consumption...that person must have been taking flagyl or metronidazol which will give you a very violent reaction.

It's absurd to think that lyme or alcoholism is a precursor one way or the other in this disease. If anything I've stayed on the wagon more since my dx due to the many abx's I've been on and the bad way I feel (hangover and symptom exasperation) during and after consumption of alcohol.

I believe the carbs in beer give me a bad reaction two beers into the day. I used to like to have three beers every nine holes of golf but stopped because of the muscle soreness and pain and fatigue I would suffer after one and a half beers.

Alohol will steady the nerves however it will also lower your immune system...if you can use it God bless you but don't say we did'nt warn you................the zman
