I started IV Rocephin 2 gram treatment on Wednesday. I am hurting so bad today I can barely move and it isn't in just one place it is all over. Mainly my Knee's, hips, and elbows and every muscle in between! I feel like even my toes hurt it is so bad. I hurt to lay down, I hurt to sit up and I hurt to stand. I feel like my muscles are on fire everytime I move.

I can't think straight I was going to go to the store this morning for a sprite and I didn't even look when I pulled out of my driveway and someone almost ran over me because I didn't look both ways.

I don't think I have ever hurt this bad even in my worst day before treatment began.

I wear a duragecis pain patch 50 mg and I have darvocets (sp?) to use for break through pain I can take 2 every 6 to 8 hours. I take that and it might calm it down where I can at least lay down without it hurting they work for 2 hours if I am lucky and I wake up walk to the bathroom it the pain starts all over again again.

I have never had to take darvocest(sp?) this much when I am wearing a pain patch. I am hurting so bad and don't ever remember hurting this bad before treatment.

I have a two day break of the rocephin and will start back on Monday-Friday. My schedule to take the medicine is Monday thru Friday and off on weekends. I am hurting so bad I guess this is herxing but how do I through this? Will it pass? I thought this treatment was suppose to make me better not make things worse. My doctor said I would get worse before I got better but I didn't think I could get any worse than I already was before I started treatment. boy was I wrong! because of my picc line I can't get in a hot tub of water because it will make me sweat and I don't want to chance it getting infected.

How can I make this easier to go through? Or can I even get through this? I am hurting so bad!
Sorry for whining on here but I just don't know what to do. any suggestions will be helpful.
Thanks,
Stacie

Hi,

Sorry to hear that you are having a tough time. Good news and bad news, good news, your probably having a herximer. What is a herximer? It means that the antibiotics are killing off them spirochetes and all the dead bacteria in your blood stream is causing your body to go on overload making the pain and other symptoms worse. Bad news is, there is no specific time period to which this lasts. I am on the duragesic patch too. I take 50 micrograms for my severe stomach pain. I also take Actiq which is also fentanyl too.
Try taking warm baths, drinking hot tea, and also if you have a local gym to try going into their infrared sauna. Other than that, if the pain gets too unbearable, go to the ER or go to your primary doc and see if he can prescribe something more effective for the pain. I have a picc line too. You can go in the hot tub as long as you water proof your picc by wrapping saran wrap around it and taping it with water proof tape that you can get at a local grocery store.

Good Luck,
K-lyme

Hi Stacie,

I'm sorry you are hurting so bad right now, let your doctor know how you are feeling. Some LLMDs will have you stop abx for a few days.

I hope this passes soon for you,
Beverly
