I just requested Neurontin from my neurologist for head/neck pressure and generalized arthritis pain throughout my body.
My tests came back with moderate arthritis in my neck, which she says is causing the head/neck pressure. She seems to know her Lyme, said she feels strongly that it's not the Lyme. I am also on Ultracet, which handles most of the pain, but not the head pain. She is starting me out on 300mg Neurontin at night since I had a bad reaction to Toradol which she tried me on first. Does this sound right? She's willing to go higher, wants to first test me on the lower dose. I get a great sense of her as knowing her medicine, but just want to make sure. Any side effects?
My LLMD started me on 300mg of Neurontin at first...then she increased it. I heard the same from another one of my friends for a problem other than Lyme.
I had a problem when she tried to lower it(tremors), so she increased it back.

My LLMD has me on 600mg 3x per day. 200lb. male. She had me ramp up over a week or so, at my discretion. In my case it was for restless legs that I've had for 5 years. Used to use Sinemet but it has lost effectiveness.
One great side effect of Neurontin is that I sleep better than I have in 10 years. Got 7 hours straight the other night, which for me is a miracle.

I've been on Neurontin for about a month. Neurontin is supposed to target nerve pain. I started at 100mg at night, and every day added another 100mg, until I was at 100mg 3x day, then increased night to 200,waited a couple days, increased morning...
The first few days I was amazed at my sleep quality. And I've been on Flexeril for months, so I am usually zonked anyway.
As soon as I got beyond 900mg a day, I got very tired. I went back to 900mg, and may try even cutting that for a while.

I took my first dose of 300mg Neurontin last night, as prescribed. My head pain was worse, I had strange pains throughout my body, and it knocked me out. I woke up with a hangover that's not going away. I think I will try half a dose tonight, was feeling so hopeful that it might work out and now am in tears. None of my other pain pills are working, and everyone loves the Neurontin, so I hope I am able to take it and the first night was an adjustment only. Any ideas? Don't tell me to call the doctor, you people here know more about us Lymies. Love you all for the help.

ihm.....just hang in there, the neurontin should help you. But I would suggest taking 100mg at first. I am NOT a dr...ask your LLMD!
Yep, you'll have a huge hangover when just starting on the neurontin. The longer you take it the better your body will adjust. I think it will eventually help your pain.
I was taking 300 mg every night but have now cut back to 100 mg as I'm on a new product which has helped my pain and my sleep BIGtime!

My doctor had me start real slow - start with 100mg for 2 days, then add another for 2 days, then another, etc. That way your body has time to get used to it.
It's not a magic pill. It will take weeks to work.
Also, what kind of pain are you having? My understanding is that Neurontin helps with neurological pain. If your pain is being caused by arthritis, it may not be the right medicine for you.

Thanks for all the posts. I am trying half of the 300 mg Neurontin tonight. The hangover from last night lasted until early afternoon. It was prescribed for balloon pressure in my head, maybe coming from my neck according to the neurologist. A cervical xray found moderate arthritis in several places in my neck, so I'm not sure I can blame the Lyme on this although Lyme could cause the same thing. I am also on 2 abx, Vioxx, Ultracet, Fioricet as needed, Diflucan, Nystatin. So what's one more pill? Just joking, didn't want another med, but this head pressure isn't going away.
