Hi Everone:

Well, I'm definately experiencing a relapse and not a herx like I was hoping for. Off abx now for almost a week and my symptoms are really going. Wondering if anyone has had a similar symptom profile and if you found anything rx or otherwise that relieved your symptom(s)....

My main symptom is the flu-like thing that many people get. It's a total body intense malaise. It makes me feel achey, woosy, nauseous and dizzy. Kinda like a bad hangover. My body is shaking internally, if that makes sense. I'm taking 800 mg advil and alternating that with tylenol at prescribed intervals but, it's not touching it. Dr. P. gave me a script for Flexerall but, I haven't tried that yet.

Any of you that understand what I'm dealing with, find anything that took the edge off. I've tried the hot soaks, etc. I mean it's so bad right now I can't sleep because, besides feeling lousy, I can't relax....my body won't let me. Man, this thing is horrible. Let me know and thanks for reading.

Thx,
Dave

Hi Dave.......just wondering if you're on any medications.....I'm on several for symptoms other than the Lyme.....I take the Flexeril, neurontin, antidepressant, to keep my mind sane and my body moving during the day and klonopin at night to help sleep.....it's a trial and error thing....to find a combination for your body and mind.....

I'm new here too and believe me you can have lots of help here from people that have experiences that will be happy to share.....

It always seems to make us relax and feel better if we know others are feeling it with us and praying for us to make it thru another day......

Keep us informed about your progress and most of all don't give up or stop looking for answers.......there are plenty of us right along beside you.....

Hi Debbie:

Thanks for your reply. The only meds I have are the Flexeril (which I haven't tried yet) and I do have Klonopin as well, which actually works to relax my body, although I rarely take it. I did take a little last night just to get some sleep and it did help me relax to where I fell asleep for about 2 hours. But, when I woke up, WOW, the tension in my body was incredible.

Thx,
Dave

Thanks Dave.....try the flexeril.....I take it 3 times a day......and it does help.....I'm not sure what the neurontin is for but I also take that 3 times a day......don't be afraid to take the klonopin to sleep.......I've been taking it for years and believe me it's helped to at least give me good sleep at night....keep us informed.......

Hi Deb:

Any side effects from the Flexeril? I heard it can make you pretty drowsy.

Thx,
Dave

Dave, will you be going back on abx or doing some other treatment?

I'm a huge baby about sleeping. If all the other things (valerian/hops tinctures, melatonin) fail, which they do when I'm too sick, I take temazepam. Not sleeping is dreadful and makes things much worse in the long run.

When I was really ill, acetominophen didn't touch the pain for me. Butalbytal/acetominophin sometimes helped for a while, especially with headaches. Neurotonin made me feel very strange, and vicodin and flexeril didn't do much for me either. The only thing that worked for me in the long run was treatment.

Good luck.

Hi Minoucat:

Yes, I started back on Doxy today. We'll see what happens. Yeah, I may have to try to get through this with the Klonopin.

Thx,
Dave

Dave,

Just a suggestion. If the Doxy doesn't do it for you please consider asking your doctor for Spectracef. It was my wonder antibiotic. One 200mg tablet 2 x day.

achiness - ask your dr if you can try ultracet (prescription) ... it is a nsaid NOT a narcotic ultram is simular but ultacet worked better for me. ultracet is very rarely addicting.

Nauseous - ginger root u can buy it at the health food store.

my friend has taken flexeril ... it knocks her out. flexeril is a muscle relaxer as opposed to a nsaid or narcotic pain reliever

are you not sleeping because of the other symptoms or because you can sleep.
if the later is the issue... someone mentioned melatonin ...i've heard good things about that.I'm sorry if this isnt cohrent ..very tired.
best wishes

vandeb... neurontin is used for a variety of things orginally i believe it was used as a mood stabilzer then they found out it had a side effect of helping with pain for some people so now they also use it for pain... i dont know if it has other uses.

Hi Dave,

Sorry to hear it is ruff for you right now.

Nurontin was used for seizures in my friend with Lyme.

We both used Ambeim (spelled wrong I think)

It worked for sleep, did not cure anything but helped allot during the hard times.

Please remember while taking RX to build the immune system constantly.

Wishing you the best, Kat

Ti help get to sleep I gound 'Yogi Tea's "Bedtime Tea" helpful.
I tried melatonin, but it didn't have as much of an effect.
I had a NIGHTMARISH experience with ... ...'celebrex'... ....
I needed to sleep much more than usual the whole time I had Lyme etc.. (but still sometimes couldn't sleep when I wanted to, due in part to to pain, and the general anxiety that comes with being sick.
Saunas were very helpfil, but sometimes would precipitate some kind of "herx"-like result the first few times, though these were usually not painful, for me.

Hi dave
I knopw you probably are not getting much relief , I take 20 MG of bextra a day for the arthritis like symptoms which helps some

as for herbal pain relief
you might try valerian root , passion flower especially at night

also get essential oils of lavendar and jasmine and either use a diffuser or just sprinkle a few drops on your pillow before laying down, these two oils have been found to make a great sleep aid

when I take a hot soak , I add Lavendar oil ginger oil, eucalyptus oil and epsom salts to the water and it helps much more than just hot water by itself

Dave........glad to see you're getting some good advice.....there are lots of things that help for Lyme and all the discomforts.....just have to find what works for you....

that's the frustrating part but when you get some relieve with the combo you and your LLMD come up with, you'll see what a difference it makes in your life....

I haven't had any significant side effects with flexeril......I have chronic fatigue so I usually take a nap during the day but it doesn't make me groggy......I usually enjoy the nap to keep me going for the rest of the day.......

good luck in trying to find your combination of meds.......don't give up.......it's frustrating but rewarding when you finally get the result you need......

Sometimes just taking motrin or alieve could dull it down but when it got worse I would take vicodin and motrin then when I was having a bad herx lots of water and suffered.

Dave:

Just a thought: I have been feeling the same way & am on abx. We finally figured out that I actually do have the flu. Thought it was a week long herx but turns out my sinuses are infected and my chest is now congested.

Consider that it might be one of the infamous flus going around, which abx won't touch. Advil helps a little.

Thanks BC,

I thought about the flu but, no one else in my family has been sick and my symptoms have been exactly the same as what I've had with this blasted disease. Ironically, after 2 days on the Doxy, I have been feeling much better. Didn't think I'd respond so quickly, but I'll take it!

Thx,
Dave
