Pattiecake,

I see that this is your first post on Lymenet so WELCOME.

I am actually going to give you a hurried answer right now and some links that you can read.

YES, I have problems with gluten and gluten-containing grains.

Here is an article that addresses gluten with a link below.

GLUTEN EXACERBATES THE PROBLEM

In Response To: Re: ASPARTAME LAWSUITS ACCUSE MANY COMPANIES OF POISONING (Ghost)

One of the issues related to how these excitotoxins wreak havoc is "leaky gut", hyper-permeability of the mucous membrane of the gut which allows proteins to leak into the blood.

Gluten (the protein found in wheat, barley and rye) causes the production of zonulin, which makes the gut "leaky". From there, proteins like gluten which normally would be too large to permeate the membrane, are allowed entry into the bloodstream. This situation can trigger all sorts of immune reactions.

Consider that the Standard American Diet contains a large percentage of gluten grains, principally wheat.

It means that much of the diet is addictive. Plus, having a permeable gut membrane means that not only proteins but MSG, aspartame, sugar, and alcohol can get into the bloodstream a lot quicker.

Add to that.. the zonulin opens the blood-brain barrier too. So the MSG, aspartame, chemicals, sugar, and opioids go straight to the brain! Plus since Americans snack all day long (mostly on gluten-containing snacks), that gut barrier and brain barrier stay open all day. Explains a lot, I think.

Introduction to the Paleolithic Diet is Ben Balzer's page. He is a family physician in Australia. Probably the clearest introduction on the web.

This is a very interesting short version of the diet eliminated gluten-containing grains and WHY.

Also, you can go to the "search" button right under "post reply" and type in gluten and do a lymenet search on the topic.

Hi Patticake-

Yes, I don't tolerate gluten. The intolerence seems to be the underlying cause of my compromised immune system. I eat a minimal amount of it now and my iron levels are finally all in the normal range eating a healthy lyme type diet, low carb, high veggie.

My gluten antibody tests can back normal, but my llmd wasn't surprised. The dark circles under my eyes are almost gone!!!

Welcome to Lyme net!

Mel

Hello and welcome.

Has anyone else tried Omega 7 to help with the leaky gut??? I've been on it for 4 months now. When I stopped it, my IBS returned within 2 days - this stuff is amazing. Rebuilds the lining of the gut and intestines....
