Started having excruciating pain above and below my left ear on Monday. I thought it was referred pain from the ruptured eardrum. It wasn't. I have TMJ and it's horrible! I haven't slept since Monday Evening. Stabbing, lancing, cruching pain in the head. Arrgghh. I'm falling apart. I really feel like I'm crumbling to pieces. Gives new meaning to that old Patsy Kine song: 'I Fall to Pieces.' He-he.

I'd go to a dentist that treats TMJ ASAP. I've worn a night splint since 1994, and know I've had lyme at least 14 years. The
splint has helped out a lot...not a cure all but has gotten rid of most the pain.

Another thing that helped tremendously is craniosacral. Find a good practioner who knows what there doing, this will also make a big difference.

Since being dx I've noticed if I get really stressed, the TMJ starts hurting.

I too was told I had 'TMJ' before I was dx'd with Lyme. The TMJ Dentist wanted to charged me $4800 for his treatment, which included a bite plate that would correct the problem.

I am missing a back tooth in my upper jaw, which most likely is the culprit, and even though I am wayyyyyyy better, my jaw would always ache in the am.

Not anymore....
www.youngliving.com - Order their 'Present Time' Oil. Put a drop on your finger at bedtime and rub it in all the areas that typically ache. No pain for me anymore, and I sleep LIKE THE DEAD!! I think it was about $32, but it contains 125 drops, so that will last quite a few months.

I also put it on in the am before I go to work because I have the tendency to 'clench' when I get stressed. No clenching, no pain anymore.

$4800, my fanny!!

Do you grind your teeth at night? I have TMJ and I grind like a mutha at night. I woke up one morning and I couldn't open my mouth. Literally, I could open enough to fit my pinky finger in and that was it. It kind of hard to eat like that. I was scared! I went to a dentist who "specializes" in TMJ and he fitted me with a $400 mouth piece to sleep with. It seemed to work but it was kind of uncomfortable. My teeth kind of hurt in the morning. I lost it when I moved and then I just bought one of those mouth guards, it's like a big mouth piece, at Walgreens. I sleep with it, I grind away and my TMJ is fine. I would go to the dentist to make sure everything is alright, but tell them no thanks on the $400 guard and go buy the $25. But of course I'm not a doctor, so don't trust me.
