Hi!

Which is which and which is who? Basically the same.

I was looking for something that would settle this question. If you do a search using the words "metronidazole and tinidazole" together you will find more and maybe something better than what I've posted here (I was in a hurry).

These drugs (nitroimidazoles) have been historically used to treat Giardia, H-Pylori and others.

Flagyl (metronidazole) and tinidazole are in the same family of drugs and are used interchangeably in the treatment of lyme. It is said that the "tini" is even more effective with less side effects.

Tini is a compounded drug but it is not a new one......Fasigyn is a brand name for tini which is not compounded.

This quote is NOT made in reference to the treatment of lyme but demonstates the relationship of the drugs to each other.

"The greatest clinical experience is with the nitroimidazole drugs, i.e., metronidazole, tinidazole, and ornidazole, which are highly effective. A 5- to 7-day course of metronidazole can be expected to cure over 90% of individuals, and a single dose of tinidazole or ornidazole will cure a similar number."

Here is more on the use of "zoles" and an excelent explanation of the Herxhiemer Reaction:

I cannot say I have done better than on Flagyl because I haven't taken Flagyl but I have had 6 or 7 rounds with Tini and things have really improved for me. I have become much more reliable than previously because my health is a lot more stable but I do still get some very bad days. However they are not too frequent.

BTW I pulse Tini 3 days each week and follow up with 4 days of Doxy. I often only take half the dose of the Tini for the first day and then take the full dose for 2 more days. This seems to stop the horrendous migraine developing that so often happens when I take the Tini. I doubted sometimes if I could stand the way it made me feel but that has improved as time has gone on.

The study showed that a single dose of Tinidazole equivalent to 2 grams killed something like 95% of 10 month old cysts. Very impressive! However it didn't do anything for the mobile spirochettes and that is why we need to follow up with a different abx that will do this.

Lil

(I only expect to be taking Tini for 3-4 months in all but wouldn't hesitate to go back on it if necessary).
