I had to compile a list for a nice couple I met while at the First Annual Lyme Disease Convention in Gettysburg, PA. It included sites for free or reduced costs for meds for them... due to their Insurance problems.

Thought I would post this info on one site to make it easier access for all. Credit to several members here for allowing me to "borrow" from their posts to help those in need... Thanks.

Anyone having more sites... or some I have missed, please post here also. Thanks!

Tincup?s List of Free Meds, Reduced Meds, and Online Pharmacy sites for Tick
Born Disease Patients:
UPDATED DECEMBER 2001 *****
Since the demand for medications is on the rise for Lyme and co-infections, I have
updated and posted new sites below. If you are willing to do your "homework".. or have
someone assist you, there are plenty of sites to check.
I have added sites that list patient assistance programs for individual drug companies,
discount drugs or free drugs for seniors, low income sources (some sites consider low
income to be in the $40,000.00 range), and for those disabled.
There are several sites for ordering discount IV supplies online... a special site for our
Canadian friends, Mexican friends, and even a site for discount meds for your pets!
Hope it helps!
*****************
I have not used these sources and I am not recommending them by listing them... This is
simply a list to make it easier for you to check out possible sources. I have heard mostly
good things, from patients I have referred, about many of the ?free med sites?. The sites
below are in no particular order. If you don?t see one you can use, keep looking. Good
luck! Take care of you!

Patient comment: This site (below) has much better prices than even a ..'discount'

IV Rocephin antibiotic for Lyme and co-infections:
If you are on Rocephin, Roche Pharmaceuticals manufacturers it, and their phone number
is (973) 235-5000. Call and ask about their patient assistance program. Tell them how
serious your situation is and ask if the forms can be processed ASAP.
Rocephin is prohibitively expensive, sometimes up to $200 a day. If you cannot afford
this but you need Rocephin, the generosity of Roche Pharmaceuticals has made FREE
Rocephin not only possible, but very simple.
1. Call Roche Pharamceuticals in Nutley, New Jersey. Ask for a "Needy Meds
Application" to be sent to you.
2. Upon receipt, fill out the form with your doctor. The form consists of only a few lines
and should take no longer than 5 minutes tops. No files or papers must be sent- ONLY
this simple form. Your doctor should send it off.
3. Usually, from the time the form is sent to arrival of the drug at your Doctors office will
take 3 weeks. The usual shipment is of 3 months of Rocephin. You may refill at will with
the same simple form.
IV supplies can be gotten cheaply if you comparison shop.

Hi,
I have to thank you for the information. I called Roche Pharamceuticals in Nutley, New Jersey on Monday. My Dr. received the paper work and we will be filling it out and sending it this week. It will be a big help financially. I asked for 2 forms 1 for my son and 1 for me, they were very nice and sent them out the same day.
My son came off of 40 days of Rocephin(sic) in July and he is starting to feel lymie again. We just got back his lab work from MDL and he is positive (still) for lyme. When he was on the Rocephin (sic) we ran the same tests (MDL) and he was neg. I think he needs to be on the IV for a much longer time.
Thanks again for this information it really was something we needed.

Thanks so much, Tincup.
I sure blew it this month; I had some lead time and wasn't able to get it together to apply- ended up forking more than $500 for meds alone!
Disaster... Looks like I better eat nothing but rice and beans.. But no, can't do that- I need to GET BETTER! I.b. in BIG TROUBLE.

Thank you, thank you!! Were you reading my mind? I am trying to arrange the Rocephin thru a local pharmacy as Option Care co-pay is expensive. Any advice on purchasing the IV supplies? PICC line went in last week and I'm just getting settled in.

A Tremendous Thankyou! to Tincup and others who have posted this info' in the past. My daughter is going to school with the help of financial aid,and is working a job that does not provide insurance. She has terrible asthma and couldn't afford her medications. She was Extremely Depressed, and terrified at the realization she would have to stop her medications because she could't afford them. I saw the info' you posted a while back and gave it to her. It gave her a little hope at the time. And last week thanks to your post, she received 3 months of medication and can reapply again if necessary. We are so thankful for this program, this site, and you for sharing the information. We would not have known otherwise. To anyone who needs help getting medication, contact these agencies, fill out the paperwork they require, and send it back to them. It is so worth it!!! There really is some help out there. Thanks again to those who have posted this info. --- RobinG

Tincup,

Thank you so much for posting all of the sites and information that I have run into so far. I'm new here, but as I'm finding out, not new to Lyme. I'm not on any meds yet, but you have given me a good start to try and educate my doctors.

Oh my.. this means the "neighbors" are watching us! HA!

Thanks Cheryl! Happy to have your folks be able to have some help as need be.

And in honor of you and your site.. I went and researched more sites and found LOTS more info that should be able to help many more in need.

I have posted an update on the original site in case someone needed to print it out.

New sites I located include discount IV supplies online, seniors sites for discounts and/or free meds, low income sites for free meds (some sites consider about $40 thousand to be low income), and sites for our Canadian friends...

There are State Assistance programs and individual Drug Company Assistance Programs with over 50 sites listed for various drug companies.

And even a site for our pets discount drugs online.. from chickens to kitty cats!

Thanks Cheryl for your wonderful site and all you do!!!

Tincup how can we thank you, you are just a life saver.
I don't know what to say.

I sent this site to my sister who is totally maxed out of $$ and has not been able to afford her meds. and had to be off of them.

The dr. wants her to go on IV again and she can't even amagine how she is going to be able to get the $$ for this.

I am praying she will get going and look into this ASAP she is getting sicker being of the meds.

OH!! and a big thank you to from my dog Zoey!
She has been showing a lot of signs of lyme and took her to the vet today.
Doctor did an in house test / neg.
But highly suspects it is lyme and suggested a western blot.
I may need that pet site after all. Thank you THank you !!! Swiss

Well.. gulleeeeeee... Such great news! We helped 2 folks recently... and a doggie too. Hip Hip Hurray!

Now.. Susie C from Texas posted this (under General Section) to help others and I am sticking it in here so more will be able to find it.....

This is her post.. (Thanks Susie)

allmed.net is a site you can order cheaper IV supplies. An MD must sign as Medical Director and keep his credit card # on file with the company, but each patient may order for themselves and charge on their own personal charge card (NOT THE DR.'S) and it is shipped free to your home. Each group makes up it's own name and code to order under. Have your LLMD look at the website and see if he is interested in helping. You still get your drugs from your current source unless you draw from large sodium chloride bags. For IM injections they have syringes 3cc, 5cc, 10cc, 20cc (good for push IV). Syringes are luerlock, but needles are not. They have gloves, masks, dressings, etc.

You can make up to $40,000 a couple and get free zithromax from Pfizer. I think, if you are single, it's like $27,000.

Here ya go... this site's for you!

The ducks interpretation of Lyme has been challenged by those who research it, diagnose it, treat it, and live with it, and they don't have, in my opinion, a plausible alternative explanation as to what is going on.

So they can kiss my grits....

Here is a new site at Lyme Net that lists meds we found on the Internet to be the lowest priced.

Hope it helps the pocket book!

A HUGE thank you to Moonbeam!

Like many of you- I am on a limited budget. No income at the present time and living on student loans.

$$$ only goes so far when dealing with pricey meds as you know.

I had my doc contact Roche pharmacuticals and it took awile due to incomplete paperwork, but...once the kinks were worked out...they generously donated 2 months of Rocephin at no cost!

They were very nice and easy to work with.

So, don't give up- there is always an alternative!

Thank you Roche and thank you Moonbeam!

A very grateful,
Melanie
