I was just told by a good friend to be VERY careful of long term Doxy. She said a friend of hers had been put on DOXY long term (1 year) and had developed a permanent purple-like skin discolouration... it has never gone away, it is on the side of her face.

Her Dr later told her that this is a side effect of Doxy sometimes.

Has any one had this happen to them?

thanks,

PS--- Something I just found from the net... makes sense, maybe this is why I have tiny broken blood vessels on my face since on Doxy...

"As minocycline can build up in the body, turning dark purple and looking like bruises, minocycline acne treatments are not high dosage for long periods of time. Taking 500mg of vitamin C twice daily will help with pigmentation problems, but it is important to be in regular contact with your doctor to monitor it. Pigmentation will clear up when minocycline acne treatment is discontinued, but it takes time, sometimes a year or more. "

I was on Doxy for only 5 weeks. My MD siad to avoid the sun. One day I cycled with a sleeveless tee on and had forgotten to put my sunscreen on. That evening I noticed that my arms were the color of an eggplant. It did go away. My MD said to use SPF 1000 (if they made such a thing) while on Doxy.

I have never heard of this with Doxy. I have heard of it with C. Silver.

Sunscreen is important with Doxy. But US Standard is low when it comes to sunscreen.

The highest standard in the world is Australian. You can get Blue Lizard sunscreen at http://crownlaboratories.com

Trish, check out this site. It's NIH's medline plus. Noticed there were about 10-12 doxy's listed; I chose one only. Betty G.
