First I want to thank you all for having this website, it helped me tremendously last night, when having my first major herx!

I had a migraine for 3 days which is not unusual for me. I went for a massage which seemed to help. Also I had been having bad leg & foot spasms/cramping for about a week, didn't think anything of it.

Then last night I started having an anxiety attack,I don't have a history of these, started having them in Dec. which is when I went to dr. & he ran the western blot blood test that came back positive for Lyme.

He told me at that time that infection sometimes caused anxiety attacks. During the anxiety last night I got really, really bad...felt like I was about to either die or go completly over the edge. Felt like I was sufforcating, heart racing, could not concentrate, had to kept walking around...could not sit still for nothing.

Hubby even went out in the cold at 11:00 P.M. to go for a walk with me...nothing helped! I came on here & did I search for panic attacks cause I taught I was going crazy...and viola....I found many posted on this subject and know now it is this darn Lyme causing it.

Even though it didn't take the attack away, I felt better knowing WHY I was having it! After it subsided I went to bed and was very cold. I put my heating blanket on until 5:00 this morning, which is very odd for me! I had such chills my body was shaking! I took extra magnesium after reading it from a person here too, and the leg/ foot cramps are a little better this morning.

I am so glad I was told to come here by people on the fibro site I go to. Please...if anyone has suggestions on dealing with these anxiety attacks, let me know...these are all new to me...and I'm not coping to well...so HELP!!!! God Bless, Carol

Welcome to you!

Looks like we have a new little freezing, freaking patient amongst us!

Just what we NEED here!

HA!

HO HO HO! JUST KIDDING!!!!

Join the chilly, chomping at the bit crew... and we DO welcome you.

YEP...

Herxes suck! But I guess you know that by now? Sorry you had to deal with that.. and be all alone too.

At least you KNOW why this is happening.. and you are right.. it does help to know... even if we can't stop it.

I wish I had a cure for those rotten panic attacks.. cause golly knows I have had my share of wicked ones in the past.

After doing anything and everything..

The best thing that I found was ..

And don't make fun..

A passive.. and I stress the word PASSIVE.. muscle relaxation cassette tape. NOT the kind that tells you to tense your muscles first, THEN relax them... DO NOT use that kind.

ONLY the kind that tells you to relax each part of your body.. and breath properly.

The drugs made me worse.. and didn't really help the panic feelings. However, I kept some xanax in my car.. so if I got desperate I could go get them.

I got use to listening to the tape.. and could eventually do the exercise in my mind without the tape being on.

Another thing.. lay down on your back and place a warm... NOT HOT.. heating pad on your upper chest. DON'T fall asleep this way or you will burn your boobies! I KNOW!

But breathe and focus is about the best I have found.

I hope others have some ideas..

But don't be listening to the goof ball with the droopy drawers if SHE shows up.

She is kinda weird..

But we DO love her.

And don't be telling her I said that.. ok?

Welcome to Lyme Net, Carol.

If we can do anything to help.. we sure will try.

Sorry about your experience. I've had anxiety attacks as far as I can remember. With lyme, they have been more intense than ever. This is a disease of the nervous system (one of the systems involved) and it can make you feel that way. I have tapes, but sometimes nothing takes it away. I have xanax also. Near monthly menstrual cycle, every symptom, physical and mental intensifies - may be mix it with a herx and you have your experience. I wish there was an easy answer. Write whenever you have to, to vent, to freak...I've been there and continue to be one of the unfortunate. Herxes are scary places to be, you are not alone.

Good luck - I sympathize. Know alot of people are feeling the same.

Welcome!
When my son has anxiety I have him focus on something. Either looking directly at something in the room or outside that interests him. Sometimes I have him close his eyes and picture in his mind somewhere or something that he loves dearly. From there we take deep breaths together. Within a few minutes and for most of the time he gets through them.
Just letting you know what works for him.

Thanks for the advice Tincup, I'll have to find a muscle relaxation tape to listen to. Where did you find one? I noticed the more I tried to fight it, the worse I was getting, and I had a hard time trying to calm down, so a tape may be helpful in that. I think I really had my poor hubby scared!

Thank you for the suggestions giftoflife, and the uderstanding cigi, glad to know that I'm not the only one freaking out here!

God Bless, Carol

I'm not one for giving my body or suggesting others giving themselves antidepressants,

but Zoloft REALLY REALLY worked on this for me ( and quick). It also reduced my herxheimers to almost nothing.
