Jake is on testosterone (cream) and Jake & Jordan are both on Cortef.

They both started at a low dose and increase the dose until they feel better - more energy, less fatigue.

The problem is both have severe, unrelenting headaches. I don't think they will have more energy and less fatigue until the headache is gone.

If you are on testosterone or Cortef, what dose do you take?

Thanks!

I take 20 mg cortef split into doses of 10 mg in am...5 before luch and 5 in afternoon to normalize my adrenal function. I also take 10mg DHEA, and Armour thyroid.
It's been abt 3 weeks on cortef /DHEA and a little more than 2 on armour.

I'm having less fatigue, and headaches, and better balance.

Still have cognitive problems, but started new abx combo 4 days ago that's suppose to help that.

Hoping to be working one half day a week by March...

Hope this info helps

I don't think the cortef or testosterone is the problem. Just my opinion. I've taken both for about 2 yrs and haven't had any more headaches than usual.

I take 10mg of cortef [was taking 15] and 10mg of testosterone....along with other hormones.

I don't think Cortef or testosterone is causing the headaches. But, until we find the cause of the headaches, I don't think they will feel less fatigue and more energy.

Have you been retested for hormone deficiencies?

I'm hoping they can do some type of blood test.

Pab, did the boys have a ACTH (cortrosyn) stim test? My Endocrin wants me to have one done but I wanted to ask my LLMD to make sure it was OK for Lymies.

I tried a few months of Testosterone (clomid) and Thyroid meds but they didn't do much for my head.

Sorry they're still having horrible headaches. I can relate and sympathize as I know how awful it is not to have a moments respite.

Pab....I'm so sorry your boys are still having such terrible headaches. I know you want the cause....but have they tried beta blockers?

and are they on treatment for babs yet?

My severe migraines went south when I was treated for babs....and around the same time I also started taking beta blockers for tachycardia. No more headaches to speak of!

Hiya, I've got late-stage neuroborreliosis, just found out two rather alarming bits of news:

My latest brain MRI shows atrophy and volume loss that were not there 16 months ago, at last MRI.

I have nearly no testosterone, test lower by three different measures than your average 95 year old.

So I've been looking at the causes of testosterone deficiency, and it seems in most cases it is the brain, specifically the hypothalamus and pituitary, which makes intuitive sense in my case.

I too have horrible headaches.

So then I got curious about testosterone and the immune system. Found this gem of an article, which I'm going to post separately, showing that the most serious form of malaria (a close cousin to Babesia) produces much, much higher levels of parasitemia when testosterone and DHEAS are low.

I don't have any answers for you, but those seem like important pieces of the puzzle to me.

I just go the news about my hormones and latest MRI yesterday, will be starting on Androgel next week.

Thinking good thoughts to you and your boys,

Paul

Jordan had the stimulation test in October by Dr. S in Kansas City.

Both were treated for Babesia but maybe not long enough. I've mentioned it to Dr. C a few times and I will ask him again.

Jordan had developed whooshing in his right ear and it was really bad. He had an MRI and the white matter that was there in 2001 is now gone.

He had a spinal tap on 2/4 and it stopped the whooshing sound. He developed a spinal headache but is feeling better now. He thinks has regular headache is better. He also started Diamox.

His opening pressure was high (275) and he had increased intracranial pressure before. He has not taken Diamox right after a spinal tap, so hopefully it will help.

Jordan has an appointment with a new endocrinologist on 3/2. He has a lot of hormonal problems that need to be addressed.

Jake went to a new neurologist yesterday. He has a few options for him to try. He has an appointment for a pain clinic on 3/3 and possibly prolotherapy on 3/8.

One more question - Jake has gained a lot of weight since he started DHEA, testosterone and Cortef. What med do you think is causing this?
