Has anyone continued rocephin knowing that they have gallstones and their doc is reluctant to give Actigal? Any herbal/holistic to stop them from getting bigger or them going away? I'm on rocephin almost 4 months and have a few small ones with no pain and wanted to stay on the rocephin as long as my doc keeps me on without complications.
Thanks in advance. God bless -

I was on Rocephin twice, but never as long as you are currently. I developed several small gallstones both times and did have some pain (relatively mild I would say). In both instances, the gallstones went away a few months after stopping the Rocephin. I never took (or heard of!) Actigall at that time. I had ultrasounds when the pain hit documenting the gallstones and then had follow up ultrasounds later on, and both times they were clear.
The gallstones that form from Rocephin are generally made out of Rocephin precipitate as opposed to being composed of what "typical" gallstones are made which is why I think they can disolve on their own. Clearly this is not what happens to everyone (judging by the number of people here who've had their gallbladders removed) but that's been my experience.

Interesting question! At my LLMD appt. this week he warned me that Rocephin could cause gallstones and that by about months 2-3 of treatment with it he is seeing a fair number of patients who need to have their gallbladder removed. When I groaned he said that could acatually be GOOD news, because at the recent Lyme conference for MDs that he attended there was some thinking that Lyme particularly likes to concentrate and hide in the gallbladder and some are even saying that it ought to be removed right away. (Of course nobody's insurance would pay for the surgery until it was absolutely necessary.) However, those people who were continuing to relapse with Lyme in spite of continued cycles of antibiotic treatment seemed to improve once the gallbladder was removed. Interesting... At this point all the information is just anecdotal among the doctors. No actual scientific studies have been done on the subject to date.
