Hello,
Does anyone know how to get Mepron cheaper besides going through Canada? I can save about $200 via canada but it still costs $500 for 3 weeks!

My insurance (BCBS of CA) stinks at covering Lyme meds. I know they wont cover this at all.

There is a tablet form of Mepron that is less expensive than the liquid but it has some other ingredient.

Does anyone know how to get Mepron cheaper? Is it ok to take the stuff that combines Mepron with the other thing? It sounds awful to take....

If anyone has any experience taking Mepron and paying for it please let me know.
Thanks
pippy

You are probaly thinking about Malarone which contains atovaquone just like Mepron does, except in a much lower dose.

Malarone is about 10 times cheaper than Mepron, and as far as I can tell from the patient feedbacks here on LymeNet, Malarone is as effective as Mepron...but

...please do a search yourself here on LymeNet. There are widely differing opinions on this issue. And it's possible that Malarone will work for some, but not for others. Same might be true for Mepron.

Malarone also contains another ingredient besides atovaquone, namely proguanil hydrochloride which aids in combating Babesia.

You can also take Artemisinin in conjunction to further treat Babesia.

There are currently a couple of other threads dealing with the issue of Babesia.

malarone has 2 components. it is cheaper, but because of the 2nd ocmponent, you cannot take the same strength as you can when you take mepron.

my son has taken many rounds of mepron, one round of malarone .... and was still positive.

now we are trying mepron and artemesia together.
