Just wondering if anyone is on this med? I have to start it later this week and I was just wondering if anyone is on it and if you feel it works. I really havent had a flare up of symptoms that I was expecting from the zythromax (250 mg 2 x's daily), flagyl (500mg 2 x's for 1 day a week) and diflucan (100mg 1 day a week). Could it just be because my dr may be starting me out slowly? Ive only been on it since last Friday so maybe I am expecting too much too soon.

ps. Is anyone having success with Flayl? All I really read about is the side effects which is scarey.

Nancy

I love Mepron!

It worked better than any other thing I took to get rid of a mess of stuff I had been fighting for a long time.

Less than a week being on the meds you are on is not enough time to say how it is working.

Unfortunately, when someone with Lyme takes antibiotics.. it doesn't work like we normally expect them to. Like for other problems you take the pills and within a few days you feel good. With Lyme.. you take the pills and the roller coater ride begins.. getting worse often before better.

Hang in there. And don't think you are starting out slowly. Sounds like a pretty hefty bunch of stuff to me.

Good luck!

It worked well for me, but I was miserable on it for the first several months. There's a thread called Mepron Buddies where you can see how it hit others: http://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/025770.html

Don't be discouraged. Or rather, go ahead and feel discouraged (ya feel what ya feel), but don't pay it too much mind. It just goes with the package. Some people don't herx badly; and often the herx isn't noticeable until 2-4 weeks when it does occur.

I go to the education store and buy the yellow tempra paint, cant get enough of it and alot cheaper too. All kidding aside, I felt that mepron was one of the best meds I have had over the past several years.

You really are not starting out all that slowly, you will probably get a good jerk two to three weeks into the mepron, at least that is when I really felt it. I was on it for two six month periods. You do need to make sure that you take enough fat intake with it to get the proper absorption. That really is not to hard to do unless you are currently on a really low fat diet.

Also ask your doctor about taking the zithromax all at once, I know some like to have it split, but mine said as well as my pharmacist that it is really not necessary if you can handle it all at once.

Also three days is really a little early to start having a herx, give it time it will happen. Good luck.

Yes, I think you're too worried. This doesn't sound like the first combi you've been on, though.- or is it? Your doc apparently suspects you have babesia.
I had babesia and had trouble getting over lyme until I seriously went after the babesia with 'malarone' (solid formulation of atovaquone), artimesia anua and gatlic. Fom the babs meds I did not notice much of a "herx", except possibly with artimesia, but as soon as I got past the initial period I started to get better and better.

Nal:

Mepron was no fun for the first couple of months. But, I can tell you that my brain fog started to lift witin 4 days of taking it.

I have been on it for at least 12 months. I have been on and off Zithromax with it (due to intestinal problems with Zith).

The initial herxes with Mepron are the "Whoa, Nellie"! type. Hang on because it does get better.

Nal: I have to say you seem pretty anxious about your protocol(s). I know you are pretty new to this. Hang in there. You need to stay as calm and focused on getting better as you can. Don't let your fears and anxiety cause so much stress that your body breaks down. Let the meds do their work and give in just a little bit. You are not going to feel worse or better over night. This healing process takes a long time. The veterans here will help you along.

Take care.

Thanks guys, I appreciate it! My anxiety and depression has really been going up and down bad the last couple weeks and so no that certainly does not help things. The only real things that do help is knowing that I WILL get better and that I have support here.

So, does anyone else have luck with zithro or flagyl?

Yes, I have had success with both zith and flagyl.
I don't believe I ever got enough of the zith but did take flagyl in a prophylactic dose of 250mgs for a year or two...then the docs took me off of it for fear of it doing me harm...did'nt notice the harm but did relapse to where I needed IVceft...again.

Anyway, some folks can't take it but I continue to insist on it at least as a pulse to break cystic form and take it with ketek right now.
Cure??? No but seem to do better with than without.
