Who here does antibiotics and holistic medicines for your healing process? My holistic dr isn't very comfortable treating while I am on antibiotics but has recommended that I take b-12 shots (which I do), omega 3's, probiotics, raw honey and a couple other things. She wont really talk about detoxing while I am on the antibiotics.

My hubby and I both feel I need to give antibiotics a chance-ive only started treatment. How do you combine both? How do you know what interacts with what?

Nancy

Id skip the raw honey if youare doing long term antibiotics because of the change in flora in the gut you can becomr prone to yeast(candida) infections candida feeds on sources of sugar to grow
probiotics two hours after antibiotics, not with them
homeoptahics can sometimes interfere with allopathic antibiotics , seek professional advice. some minerals can interfere with apsorbtion of antbiotics when taken within two hours of each other

how do you know? youve got to research on your own or seek advice from a professional . there are many good herb books out there that can help

I agree with sapphire on the honey.

Just when you need detoxing the most, she bails out on you?

I mix and match alot of supplements. I have the advice of a great LLMD and a great naturopath.

I just went to the Hope to Heal Lyme conference this weekend. Every doctor that I heard talk about alternative therapies said you can remain on abx and some actually said that their treatment should only supplement abx.

This wasn't all holistic though, some was Chinese Medicine or other alternative treatments. You also want to make sure there aren't any contraindications between the holistic meds you are on and the pharmaceutical meds, or that you aren't overdosing on any ingredient in both.

You certainly can and should supplement abx with alternative healing therapies. Detoxing, like cleanses, is not necessarily a good idea, as you will wash out the abx. Try charcoal or psyllium and bentonite every once in a while (away from abx) to clear out some of the toxins and waist.

Honey, stop eating the raw honey! I tried this too - massive yeast flare up. Raw honey is fabulous for people with healthy gut flora, not so for you.

Morning Nancy-

I think you are getting the idea that there is more to getting well than taking abx.

You will have to improve your immune system so it can take over where the abx leaves off. My llmd is a DO and was immediately interested in finding the reason my immune system was so compromised in the first place. Correcting some nutritional issues has lead to significant healing.

Lots of filtered water is the first best choice for your body to detox. You will need lots to flush the dead critters from your system. Adding a little lemon juice will change the ph of your body and help the process along. Simple. There are many other programs, depending on the needs of your body.

There is a lot of info about the adjunct therapies at this site.
