I still use caffeine regularly. It's my friend. I take it often with my abx (200mg of caff) and it makes me feel kind of good!!! -- I can make it through the evening hours without falling apart.

Tried quitting. Didn't like it.

Couldn't give up the once a month craving for dark chocolate (which is apparently a craving for magnesium I have since learned)

Gave up coffee for awhile - then gave myself a coffee enema - and it just reminded me of how much I do so love my coffee.

I drink de-caf tea at home.

As I said, I tried to give it up, but I am a bad, bad girl. But hey - I ain't smoking 1 1/2 packs of ciggys a day - ain't smoking at all! So that makes me a good, good girl!

I always strive for balance. (hahaha)

I have great admiration for those that can abstain. What strength you have!

Hey Doc, you must have been Jonsin' for coffee to have taken it that way ..

Another bad girl here, it's the one thing I can't do for this illness.

I'm sure it would be better if I did quit..

On the dark chocolate, tho --
I personally feel chocolate once a month is A-OK.. for medicninal purposes only, of course.

Can you write me a script for that?

Wrotek..good luck, this is admirable.
Those I know who have goten off caffeine had a rough start like you, but then felt very good for it later.

I'll have to think more about Mag depletion, that's a big deal.

Best of luck,
Mo

I tapered down to 25%, the goal being to get off of it permanently.

You can get severe headaches--not TBD related--from abrupt stoppage, even at 2-3 cups per day.

It does have medicinal value and may be needed if a doc sees use for it.

chemically, caffeine is a methyl group donor, I believe, but verify.

caffeine also influences inositol metabolism in some way. saw this in the mag., Scientific American back in the early to mid 1980s.

I had a miracle. I quit with no problems.

Coffee was always one of my favorite things. Every day started with 2 cups. If I slept late on the weekend I would get terrible headaches. Sometimes I would have coffee at night so I could sleep late without a headache. Whenever I dined out I finished a meal with black coffee or espresso (no sugar).

I didn't think I could survive without coffee since I wasn't a morning person and always woke up feeling lousy, foggy, tired.

When I started taking tetracycline it made coffee taste so awful I simply couldn't drink it. I made a cup every morning, had a few sips and couldn't drink any more. After 4 or 5 days I stopped making coffee.

It has been 6 months now and I really don't miss it. I feel great in the morning, I have less ups and downs throughout the day, I have zero headaches, I don't need to get up to pee during the night, I don't need to pee so many times in the morning, I don't have low back pain...

If you told me a year ago that I could quit coffee, not miss it and feel better I would have said "absolutely impossible"!

Now I sometimes have one cup of tea in the afternoon. Getting away from the morning routine of needing caffeine to get going has been beneficial for me.

Hatsnscarfs

Wrotek,
On MP I think you can use tea or coffee, right? It is a low dose ABX treatment for the most part and risk of fungus is low.

Quit coffee cold turkey. I want every antibiotic, probiotic, vitiamins and minerals etc to be absorbed into my body.

Caffine hinders obsorbtion.

Once in a blue moon I have a cup with lots of milk. (2x a mo.)

Oh yea for some reason once a month I NNEEEEEEDD dark chocolate. Last month I made choc chip cookies. I think this month I'll just get a dk choc bar.

I suffer from adrenal fatigue and while caffeine helps give me an energy boost, it also makes me feel worse after it wears off.

The only way I can describe the after effects is stressed, exhausted and depleted. For me its just not worth it.

I can't give up my coffee entirely. It is one of those simple pleasures every morning. I drink espresso, which has less gaffeine than regular (believe it or not). But, I usually drink decaf or 1/2 caf. I just love the smell of it brewing every morning and I love going to Starbuck's. For a while Starbuck's was my social outing for the day because thats as far as I could drive without severe vertigo.

Can't give it up.

Headaches when quitting caffeine are common.

But...according to Dr. Perricone caffeine triggers an insulin spike.

In the case of Lyme...this may not be a good thing. Insulin ACTIVATES PFK, an enzyme that Bb is dependent on.

Sugar, by itself (NOT complex carbs!), also causes insulin SPIKES. We need some "slow release" carbs (our WBCs and our brain cells)...but not insulin spikes.

When in COMBINATION (alkalines - minerals and glycogen - positive charges and acids - negative charges)...that's a whole different ballgame!

There is a product...ionic Mg by Liquimins. When I have a headache, I put a very small amt. in my hand and apply it to my neck.

You could also try an Epsom salt bath...25 minutes, warm water, use a full bag (4#) and if you so desire, add a 1# box of baking soda.

A cold pack will help too.

I believe when the body is acidic (and most of us are - toxins in our environment!), we crave the alkaline things to maintain the acid-base balance.
