Hi,

An LLMD I spoke to said that he has seen quite a few people with excessively high mercury levels due to amalgam fillings.

He went on to say that while it's important for everyone, it is especially important for Lyme patients to be aware of mercury poisoning and its effects, as it can hamper recovery if the body is being affected by this and also because some Lyme patients have hightened chemical sensitivities.

Aside from having your fillings changed, I read that they also do something called chelation therapy.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What is chlelation therapy?

Luthien,

You might want to reconsider having your fillings removed. My LLMD told me that it will just release the mercury into my body. He has me on NAC and MedCaps, both made by Xymogen (non-prescription). Once I'm feeling better (my adrenal glands are shot) he's going to put me on chelation therapy. You should be able to find a doctor who knows what that is. It's just capsules, and there are no bad side effects. I also think you can't take your Lyme meds while doing the therapy because the chelation will prevent absorbtion.

Hope that helps you.

Hi,

Thanks for the input.

I will definitely do some more reading on this. Honestly, will the exhaustive (not to mention exhausting) research into medical conditions never end!

So many of the mercury symptoms sound like Lyme symptoms. I wondered about removal releasing more toxins then if they're left alone, will read more about that. Also wondered about doing all this during Lyme treatment. Good to know that about the medications.

So now I'm trying to find out how this removal could affect a person. I would not want to recover from Lyme, and then have the fillings removed, and release more toxin, causing possibly a relapse as well as mercury poisoning.

Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the extensive info.

Wow, this mercury business is rather scary.

I thought I just took a simple blood test, got a yes or no answer, then just had my fillings changed.

I didn't know about all that!

And having the blasted Lyme too, how can you get rid of the mercury without causing a relapse? And yet if it's that dangerous, the mercury has to go.

In any case, I'm sure glad I read that first, I will definitely research this further. I wish I could find a board or something where I could talk to people who have actually had this done.

Gigi and Bryan,

Thanks so much for that info. I have been tested for heavy metals and am at the high end of the "acceptable" range for mercury, and in the "elevated" range for lead (probably from doing restoration work/paint stripping). I guess I do need to read more about this in addition to listening to my doctor.
