A couple of weeks ago I started having severe hip pain, especially when I first got up. Gradually it would lessen to a dull ache, but movement now makes it worse. At first it would switch from one side to the other, but now it is much worse on the side where I had a bad reaction to a bicillin injection several months ago. (Also interestingly the left side where the original bite and problems started)
My PCP says it is pain from the muscles attaching to the big hip bone, and that for most people it clears up in a few weeks. I can't take it that long. It hurts A LOT! I tallked to him today and was referred for physical therapy, but Monday at the earliest.
Any advice on what can be done it the meantime? I have ice on it right now, as a couple of years ago I had severe shoulder pain which the acupuncturist helped, and he recommended ice for that. But it only seems to have the slightest effect.
This is something like my 27th week of bicillin, and we just added biaxin Wed, but the pain was severe before that. My LLMD had prescribed it but let me wait til after vacation. where I was probably affected by the long plane ride and luggage hauling. Or is it the bicillin injection gone wild and irritating that whole area?
Until the PT, and until II see my LLMD in 10 days, any advice or similar reaction after bicillin injections?
Thanks so much!
Ann

I have the same problem in one of my hips from the scar tissue build-up from Bicillin injections. Best to rotate the injection sites and give your muscles some time to heal. Don't know that it will repair back to pre-Bicillin condition.
I use heat and massage after the inkections to help prevent more damaged tissue by moving the med into the muscle more evenly.

Ann, Hot compresses might help, as they would increase the blood circulation to the muscles to help it heal.
Another thing that may help is a far-infrared heating pad. I got one of these for my low back, and I am pleased with it. The physical therapy department might use something like this on you.
Pippy, I got my last bicillin at our local Safeway after it became unavailable at Longs. I am just finishing my 10 week supply, so do not yet know if it is now a problem for them. I did call them to say I would be refilling and they have not called to say it is not available--but I haven't made the actual refill request yet. I should do that soon.
Beachcomber, this time, the pain is not at the injection site, but all around the hip bone, spreading to the middle of the back. I have a feellng it is related to the scar tissue built up in the left side, but have not figured out how to tame it til Monday. My PCP felt it was standard muscle pain from hiking or ? (I didn't hike). He thought that a couple of years ago about my shoulder too, but the phys therapist said it was close to frozen by the time he got to it, and my LLMD said it was the lyme that superactivated the pain and inflammation in the shoulder. So I am suspicious about this hip deal..
Carol in PA, thanks for the info. It sounds good. I will ask the phys therapist about it when I see them. Did you buy yours at this site? II did use a standard heating pad this morning and it seems to have helped a bit.
Thanks again to you all and best wishes!!

I have alternated my bicillin shots - cheek to cheek - and have been doing them for 10 months. I have experienced hip pain and low back pain from lyme and horseback riding (pre-lyme).
It has at times intensified from the shots but I do not think the shots cause it. Lyme bugs love to go where there is trauma in the body.
I get chiro, do a lot of stretching of the piri formis muscle, use mild heat - too much heat can make the bicillin absorb quickly (at least for me).
Are you on any muscle relaxers and/or pain killers? Not that you should be, but they do help from time to time.
Good luck
