I got copies of past labs since I made an appointment to see Dr. P in CT. That is in early August.

I tested positive for a Lyme screen in august 2003 for lyme. It says >/= 1.00 is index positive for Lyme Disease Antibody. I was 1.34.

I was on a two week couse of Augmentin bid for a sinus infection. They debated putting me on Doxycycline but then put me on Amoxicillin 500 mg tid for 11 days. I felt this was inadequate. They assured me it was fine. The doc seemed irritated that I questioned her judgement.

Now I am not an expert by any means. I am an RN, I work as an Oncology Certified nurse. So I have a basic understanding of labs.

I was retested for Lyme in 1/2004. I stilled showed a level of 1.51. They did a IgG Western Blot. It says none detected, but then reads: "specific serologic response to B.burgdorferi is not detected. Cannot rule out early infection during which low or undetectable antibody levels to Borrelia burgdorferi may be present."

What does this mean? I was told I was negative for Lyme back then. Why did my second Lyme screen not only show positive, but an increase as well? I have heard that you can still test positive for awhile, but would it increase?

Lab testing for lyme is iffy. Do you have any symptoms? Presumably you do, since you are going to a lyme doc appt. It appears you had the ELISA titer, not a very good test.

You might want to read the section on diagnosing late stage lyme at the ilads website:

Hi smjohn,

They did not do a western blot. If they did it would show bands, numbers with + or - or +/- next to them.

It sounds to me like you were treated inadequately. Its a good thing you are going to see a LLMD.

If you're having symptoms you still have Lyme and it needs to be treated.(IMO)

Good Luck,
Lisi

It sounds like the screen was and ELISA test. They can be flaky and are not standardized.

Did they also do IgM? I suspect not. The IgG response does not show up for a number of days after infection. This is why the have the "early infection clause" it is standard boiler plate text.

Any symptoms that are promting your concern?

I have many symptoms that come and go.I looked at the symptoms list from the canlyme(sp?) website and it says if you have 20 or more symptoms it can signal a serious concern. I have at least 28 of them. I am extremely fatigued, I have chronic sinus and upper respiratory infections, headaches, muscle weakness, and the list goes on.

I just want a difinitive answer as to whether or not this is Lyme or something else.
