I really really wish the search function was working.

Has anyone had success with Rifampin?

Does this drug only work on Bartonella?????

Details please.

Thanks,

Bea Seibert

yes, it's used usually in conjunction with another med like for my kids it was minocyccline or some others use doxy or zithro.but it is used for bart..my kids were on it for about 4 months and it totally eliminated the bartonella....

you pee orange, and it really brings out bad herxes every 4 weeks,, for my kids it was really emotional herx's with rage and anger...but it worked in the end.

Bea,

I did Rifampin on it's own for 3 months. I then followed with 3 months of doxy, but they were not used in conjunction. ( Im not sure of my doctors reasoning behind this-but it WORKED, however, until now.)

It greatly eliminated some of my worst neuro symptoms and my head and neck pressure all but disappeared on it.

I won't lie though. For *ME* it was a helluva med to get through. It caused me severe rage, and severe fatigue and also 40 lbs in weight gain. ( yes, 40 lbs)

I haven't taken any rifampin since probably february of 2004 was my last dosage. I recently tested pcr positive again for bartonella and wouldn't hesitate going back to it.

To this day, if I get a slamming migraine that wont stop- rifampin knocks it out in a few doses. ( NOw I knwo why- I still have bartonella)

Im not saying it was an uncessful treatment. Its just that after I was treated before, no one thought to give me a PCR ( or any test) to see if it was gone, perhaps.

What are the most typical Bartonella symptoms? I have tested positive, but my LLMD only put me on 2 weeks of Levaquin. The bloodwork showed that it cleared, but that seems like a very short course.

Hi
I did Rif and it relieved my burning somewhat. I peeked in 6weeks.
For 1 yr I have used it as my mainstay abx. I have had no problems with it.

Good Luck
