I have been diagnosed with lyme with neuro symptoms. My LLMD ran a SPECT scan and the results were as follows:

There is moderate to marked decrease activity within the antirior third of the left temporal lobe inferiorly.

There is mild/moderate decrease within the high left posterior perietal lobe.

There is moderate decrease in the left inferolateral frontal lobe, best seen on coronal images 14 through 18. The frontal lobes are otherwise unremarkable.

There is decreased activity within the left operculum best seen on coronal image 24.

The visual cortex and cerebellum are unremarkable.

IMPRESSION:

AREAS OF DECREASED ACTIVITY AS DESCRIBED ABOVE, CONSISTENT WITH VASCULITIS. THE DECREASED ACTIVITY WITHIN THE TEMPORAL LOBE CAN BE SEEN WITH TRAUMA, HOWEVER AND CORRELATION WITH HISTORY TO EXCLUDE TRAUMA IS RECOMMENDED.

Continued...sorry it is late and I'm having problems typing!

My neurologist (not LL) ran a MRI/MRA and it came back pretty much clean (have a venous angioma which I was told is probably congenital) and said that he saw no signs of vasculitis (I've read that the MRIs/MRAs isn't the best test for vasculitis). He said that he didn't really like SPECT scans. Once again I have 2 tests and 2 doctors that disagree.

I know my symptoms seem to agree with the SPECT scan (I seem to have what my LLMD calls irregular seizures...nerve pain that is controlled by seizure meds...topomax), but I don't know what to think of my SPECT versus my MRI/MRA. Anyone know more about which of these tests seem to be best for vasculitis?

Thanks!

You may be able to glean some information from the slide presentation at www.columbia-lyme.org

Also browse that site for additional info.
