I've been on doxy (600mg) for about four months (on and off for herx). I am trying sooo hard to finish my studies, but I just can't gather enough brain-power.
It's just hard to sustain the mental endurance I had before, and I'm not at all interested in pressuring myself.
It's hard because my heart wants to finish. I feel the pressure of all these books I have to read, but my mind + body won't cooperate!
Anyone feel like this OR is this just me???

Hi. I have about two minutes to write, but wanted to throw out a couple of ideas to get you started (lots more people will be along to help soon).
First, there are several supplements that help with energy and brain fog. Some of the ones that have helped me are CoQ10 (although it can make you SO energized, it can interfere with sleep), phosphatidylcholine, theanine, omegas (flaxseed oil, fish oil, plant seed oil, etc.), sublingual B12, N-acetyl choline, cordyceps, and chelated minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc. A quick google will get you info on all of these.
Second, you may be experiencing some yeast issues, which can come up when you have taken antibiotics for a long time. Try probiotics, and maybe a prescription treatment like diflucan or nystatin. You also may get some benefit from herbal extracts that contain berberine.
Third, doxy may not be strong enough for you. In some cases, it has been known to provide enough improvement for you to feel like you are on the road to getting better--but then will not take you beyond a certain point.
I also had a co-infection called bartonella that interfered with reading comprehension and concentration. While there are many antibiotics that can help, I having been seeing improvement from a combination of rifampin and ketek--but please, do some research on all these antibiotics before trying them.
Finally, you may be experiencing systemic inflammation, which creates a lot of secondary Lyme symptoms. I take Celebrex, which works beautifully but has a lot of well-published associated risks. Some Lymenet people have recommended a natural supplement called bromelain, which I've never tried.

Thanks for all those tips. I will try some of those supplements.
Regarding yeast issues, I am taking acidophilus, probiotics, and nystatin. I'm taking levaquin for bartonella.
I wonder if doxy is enough myself. Maybe something else would be better...
Systemic inflammation? What's that about??

Systemic inflammation is basically inflammation throughout your body. Personally, I found every anti-inflammatory like Celebrex cause major fatigue and hurt my ability to concentrate.
Are you following a yeast-prevention diet? That is a no-sugar and extremely low-carb diet. It can help not only with yeast but it can also level blood sugar, especially if you eat something small every 2-3 hours. Blood sugar drops definitely hurt concentration.

Aneik, I'm sorry you had that experience with Celebrex. It does seem to be a strong drug.
Re: levaquin, it's a heavy, heavy antibiotic. I was in school when I tried it, and it was so heavy I couldn't get out of bed after a month. If you are near the end of your treatment, of course you should stick it out if you can. Otherwise, you aren't imagining things, it can interfere with your concentration.
