Igenix does an initial blood test for Lyme for $190.00 The additional co-infection tests are more. It takes about two weeks. Bowen looks at the blood under microscope and can confirm lyme and co infections at the same time cost $250. They fax the results that day so may be faster. Not sure which if either can be reimbursed through insurance. Or which hold up better if there are issues getting insurance to cover the meds.

I looked at Bowen's new website just recently and had a little trouble navigating it. Fortunately I am very clear about the test . . . the Bowen catches the L-Cyst form of Lyme that Igenex does not. They have a higher accuracy rate on finding co-infections according to others on this board. The Bowen is not re-imbursed by insurance, the money goes to The Bowen Research Lab itself and is a tax write off.

Depending on your insurance company meds may or may not be covered. I have BCBS and am covered and my HMO covered me before. Others in my area are having trouble w/the HMO and an out of state doc.

The Bowen gives you a serial dilution that tells you how much bacteria is found in the blood. Be careful, as a late stage lymie, my serial dilution was only 1:16 vs. a higher version of 1:124 or so (example). This means that the bacteria is mostly in my tissue and organs which cannot be measured w/o a biopsy. Your serial dilution is special to your specific type and stage of lyme.

The Bowen does get an answer in 48 hrs. which is great because they have alot of samples come in from overseas. Be careful your doctor knows how to read the test results. Some read the co-infections as negative so they miss the positive lyme and tell a patient negative for all. Igenex is a good lab . . . I just don't want them missing the cyst form like happened to a great friend of mine.

Keep us posted when you get tested!

Am I mistaken, or didn't I also just see that NYS accepts the Bowen test as proof of lyme, but Igenex is still working on it?

(for anger towards NY Times, see post under that topic)
