I just switched abx. I was taking tetracycline 1000 mg x 2 per day and omnicef 300 mg x 2 per day. The doc just switched me to doxycycline and omnicef. My dosage of doxy in 100 mg x 2 per day and the omnicef dosage remained the same. Is the doxy dosage enough?

I was probably infected last summer (2004) and was just clinically diagnosed in early August( 2005). The doc likes doxy but started me on tetra first because he was concerned with sensitivity to sun with doxy and my fair skin.

Still new to this abx stuff. After about 2 weeks of tetra I felt a bit better but started to feel a lot of symptoms come back at about 4 weeks on tetra. Probably a herx.

Any thoughts?

Editing....Since you are also on omnicef, the doxy dose may be enough. 200mg of doxy per day is not enough by itself.

Is your dr an LLMD???? a Lyme Literate MD..?

You say he's clinically dxd you...that's a good sign...but you may want to begin your search for a dr who is used to handling alot of Lyme patients. It can be a very complicated disease. You don't want to become chronic like so many of us.

Interesting, 'cause my LLMD just switched my to 100mg doxy / 2x per day. Maybe she just wants to see if I tolerate it better than the biaxin, before increasing the dosage.

My LLMD has me on doxycycline 200 mg/d as a maintenance dosage.

Has also used that dosage in conjunction with other antibiotics.

Get a brand name doxycycline like Doryx.

200 mg/d of Doryx worked better than 400 mg/d of generic for me.

I'm now on 400 mg of doxy....LLMD wrote out script for generic. Does this really matter? Anyone really know the pharmaceuticals behind this? [Confused]

Hi All

I have been taking doxi for a long time--
for me 200mg was not enough-
I upped to 600mg a day--spread threw day
Much better results-
Results did taper off after about
14 months--

At low dose you have to make every
bit count-Take carefully--
Do not take with dairy-minerals--
antacide--
Citrus of any type can make you
-Much- more sencitive to sun
burn--Be very careful about
sun burn-it can happen very fast-

If you are taking low dose
of doxi --get the Doryx -
I think is better.
I have never taken it tho -

Overall most generics seam
to OK-- But-
I did get a bad batch of generic
from Watson--it was totally
useless--it took me 2 weeks
to figure out why disease
was coming back --
I got very sick--

For me anytime I stoped taking--
disease came back fast- 2 days--
I was only taking doxi--Jay--

I started with 300mg doxy, did for 5 months and added in 250 zith.

The sun is bad enough w/lyme anyway? but when I went from CT to vacation right on the ocean?

I had to use the lobster pot to soak my feet in. People would whisper about Michael Jackson. I had zinc oxide going, aloe, an umbrella, wetsuit. I found the zinc actually painful to my skin.

I was wearing longsleeve rashguard (my husbands) that was big enough to cover most of my hands, but extremities were brutally burnt.

The burn went right through toenails and fingernails. I just had a good peel last week.

Definitely the haze on the ocean, salt air and intense UVs

Generics only need to prove chemical equivalence to the original medication, they do not need to perform clinical trials.

Generics are not necessarily manufactured by the same process as the original medication.

There are many factors that influence how much medication gets into your bloodstream other than the quantity of the active ingredient in the pill or capsule.

When available I go with a branded medication.
