well, i've just come down with my first cold since contracting lyme. and i feel awful. but i've read it is actually a good sign that the pathogen is activating an immune response. any thoughts on this?

I haven't had a cold since coming down with lyme. Previously I was quite healthy and got ill for a couple of days once a year with flue or a cold or whatever. Since contracting lyme 3 years ago in Cuba, I haven't had any cold....
I have heard two theories. Is my immune system in overdrive, and does it kill off any virus that comes around or is my immune system not working at all, and no reaction is given to the colds or viruses i contract.... who knows.

WHen I was really sick with Lyme I never got a cold....
Then as I got better I caught everythign that came around and it would take me 3 times as long to get over...
Now I am still catching lots of stuff but my immune system is starting to respond more "normal" to the viruses... I seem to recover in less time for most things...
and its correct that a cold/flu are viruses and abx will not do anything for them... abx only help secondary infections such as sinus infection caused by the cold....

You can still get a cold when on antibiotics. Viruses are not killed by antibiotics, only bacteria. Rest up! Lots of echinacea will help, and hot tea. :-) Hang in there!
