Recently, I felt that my left arm is falling asleep. I don't know if this is common for lyme - it is quite new to me.
Somehow, it feels like the circulation is cut off (like I've been sleeping on it for a while).

Does anyone know what helps? Does moving it helps (or even better, what abx helps with this symptom)?

Thank you!

Hi,

I have experience the asleep feeling occasionally.
Moving(if not too tired)helps distraction-wise.
I like to find a way to apply deep pressure which gives a different sensation.

Hope it gets better,

Susan

I have trouble with my arm going numb at times, as well as just my hands sometimes. Whenever the elbows are bent for an extended time (like when on the phone) or arms/hands are elevated for very long, it is more likely to occur with me. Keeping my arms and hands down to my sides in bed makes it less likely when sleeping.

Usually I just change positions and shake them well to restore normal feeling. (I have been on numerous abx combos for over 6 years now, non-stop, and never gotten rid of it. I noticed it is more likely to occur if I eat sweets & carbs, as are other symptoms.)

I have had this problem a lot. It is one of the reasons I started seeing a neuro.

Sometimes if you just Knead the muscles up an down the arm, it helps them remember what they're supposed to do and wakes them up. I also do this to my fingers when the old arthritis is acting up.

I receive e-mails from this site on the latest news reports and I read one recently that said nightshade veggies will increase swelling if swelling is already present in the body (they don't cause swelling, just aggravate it) I paid attention and sure enough, when I would eat n.s. veggies, within 15 mins, I would have increased swelling and pain. The nightshades are: potatos, tomatos, peppers, cayenne pepper (I hope I got them all). Try avoiding these and see if numbness improves. Also, some exercise each day as can tolerate will help with swelling as it gets the lymph nodes and the blood moving to improve circulation.

I would agree with Luvs2ride--I have also noticed eating nightshade plants increases likelihood of a numbing episode, as if inflammation is increased. It has been theorized that genetically some of us are more predisposed to that than others. The nightshades do not bother all people.

I forgot to mention something else on this issue that I have found true: researchers have found the riper the nightshade food, the higher the chemical compound(s) in it that cause a reaction, so if you eat those deep red vine ripened tomatoes, for example, it may bother you more than the typical grocery store variety.

I find that stretching exercises help.

I had a stretching program developed by a physical therapist who specializes in people with lyme.

Among other things, such as supplements, mg baths, walking, correct posture, I go to the chiropractor 1-2 times weekly. I have degenerative disease in my neck anyway and seriously, this has helped me more than anything.
