My dr gave me a scalp medication called Embeline (clobetasol). Ive used it a couple times this week. It is a topical corticosteroid. Since starting it, my skin burning has really flared up (a common symptom for me) and I just feel awful. Can this type of steroid cause a bad problem for LYme? I knew orals could in some people, but wast sure if a scalp treatment could or not. This sounds crazy, but it could cause a herx reaction??
My scalp still itches and my hair is still falling out.

He also put me on Allegra. I cant imagine Allegra causing a reaction. Shouldn't antihistamines help Lymies?

I have had to use topical steroids and have never had any problems with them, but HAVE had problems with oral and IM steroids...will NEVER do anything but the topical in the future. I still have to use them on and off.
I was on allegra for months at a time during my "remission" from lyme symptoms and never connected it to ANY side effect except possibly alittle more awake feeling, which was good for me.
Just my experience. Hope it helps, Trails

I would think small amounts of topical steroids would be relatively harmless.

I used a topical steroid cream once (never Orals though) and researched it before I used it.
Systemic absorption from topical cream is very small - you'd have to be covering 50% of your body with it twice per day before you'd have to worry about the amount absorbed.
It's hard to understand from your post if the skin is burning at the same location as where you used the cream - if it is then I'd mention this to the Doc (and maybe discontinue it).

I think I may just be in a really bad flare. I have discontinued the topical though cuz it wasn't helping. The burning was on my scalp but over the last couple days, has spread over my body. This is a symptom I have anyway.
