Saw my OB/GYN on Friday and he recommended uterine ablation as opposed to a hysterectomy. He's also going to try to correct stress incontinence with a bladder sling. Crazy sounding term, huh? It puts some very interesting (funny) images in my mind. I'm having outpatient surgery on the 22nd and he will be putting me down with general anesthesia. Hopefully not 'put down' as in veterinary science terms.
How many of you have had one, or both of these procedures? Did the ablation work as well as the doc claims it will?
Of note, he did acknowledge my chronic lyme and knew about the Jarsich Herxheimer reaction. A bonus in my opinion.

I had a uterine abation done in September 2004. My menses have been negligible since. Which has been a huge blessing. I had been going through a box of super tampons (and then some) each period. Now I use a minipad each day of my menses. A huge difference! Good luck....

BB, I'm scheduled to have a D and C and ablation on December 6th. I'm somewhat nervous about it. I've never had any surgery, no matter how minor, or any anestheia.
My doc says it will end the abnormal periods and perhaps stop them all together. *Crosses fingers*
She also asked me about the Lyme and asked for instructions from my LLMD on how she should handle it. She knew that any surgical procedure might flare me and wanted to make sure it's taken care of.
Interesting that our OB/GYNs are the most Lyme friendly docs we have, isn't it? They decided on running 2 grams of Rocephin during.
Good Luck on the 22nd! (and thanks for going first. ) Please let me know how it goes; ok?
Thank you, timaca, for letting us know you had a good result; I feel somewhat better hearing from someone that's had it done.

Hey Timaca, I sure can relate to the box of tampons plus each month. I've been having to use depends along with them because a pad just isn't enough.
Thanks for sharing your success story with me. I'm hoping my . just disappears, but would still be as pleased as punch if I just had to use a mini pad now and then.
trueblue, I'll let you know how the ablation goes once I'm back home and settled in. Forgot to mention he's doing a hysteroscopy as well to make sure I don't have polyps, fibroids or the C word.
I'm not as hopeful about the bladder sling. I think the incontinence is a neurological complication from lyme since it began at such a young age. I was never able to share a good belly laugh with my friends without peeing my pants. Sure would be nice to be able to laugh without squatting down or running to the bathroom!
I'll be sure to let you know how the surgery goes.
